Devils-Rangers Betting News

Devils

Devils head coach Lindy Ruff revealed his own gambling instinct before Game 3.

He started backup goaltender Akira Schmid, trying to stem the tide from the previous two games. The Devils rose up around him and Schmid stood stout.

Schmid stopped 35-of-36 shots, including eight in overtime. He kept the Devils in it until Dougie Hamilton notched the game-winner in overtime.

The Switzerland native was extremely stellar during the regular season. He had a .922 save percentage and 2.13 goals against average, along with 14 wins.

Like a poker player, Ruff held his cards close on Sunday, as no starter had been revealed.

New Jersey improved dramatically in Game 3 on the penalty kill. The Rangers had four power-play tallies in 10 attempts through two games.

In Game 3, they were 0-for-5.

Rangers

It was just a case of being snakebit. They could not have asked much more, limiting the Devils to one regulation goal for the third straight game.

Schmid, at 6-foot-5, had exceptional net coverage.

This was best displayed during a first-period breakaway from Artemi Panarin. With no openings, Panarin picked the top corner and shot over the top of the net. Panarin not only failed to score, but he wound up with two shots. His Over-Under prop usually sits at 2.5, as it will in Game 4. If Panarin had put that shot on goal, his prop bettors would have collected.

Chris Kreider had been a one-man wrecking crew for the Rangers. He tallied two power-play goals in each of the first two games.

The Devils “contained” him in Game 3. He scored only once, and not on the power play.

Kreider’s goal was nonetheless rain from the financial heavens for DraftKings bettors. They cashed him at +950 to score first.

New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers Betting Trends

The Rangers remain the darlings of the DraftKings betting public. They have garnered 90% of the handle and 68% of the bets at -1.5.

On the moneyline, the Rangers have 89% of the handle and 80% of the bets at -150.

Gamblers are split about the total.

The Over 6 has 52% of the handle and 43% of the bets, meaning that although the bigger money has gone to the Over, there is plenty of support for a low-scoring game too.

New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers Series Prediction
