Don’t try to beat a loser, or a winner
Inter-league should be renamed streak league, as it really kept and produced some very good winning and losing streaks.
Now inter-league play is behind us for awhile and we go back to regular league play for two weeks before the All Star break July 13.
We have been preaching all season long to our baseball bettors that the way to make some bucks is just follow the streaks, bet on the winners and against the losers.
The Pittsburgh Pirates continued their mastery on the road as they lost their 17 straight road game against the A’s who they actually out-hit 8 to 3; but when you keep losing you just find ways to lose and visa versa.
Pittsburgh could possible break that losing streak as they head into Chicago for a three game set and the Cubs are one team that the “buccos” can handle, so look for them to get at least one road win in Chicago.
As we head back to regular league play one team that I look to cool off is the Rangers, who have been feasting on the lowly Pirates and the Astros, the two worst teams in the NL Central and now the Rangers will travel to La La land and play the Angles in a three game series. Look for the Halos to get at least two out of three wins from the Rangers who have won nine of their last 10 games.
Another team that has won nine out of 10 games is the White Sox and now they travel to Kansas City for a three game set; the Royals could eke out two wins at good prices in this series so take a little shot with KC.
The Rays have really been taking a dump as they have gone 3-7 in their last 10 games and now have fallen into third place and three games behind the Yanks and one game behind the Red Sox.
In the NL Central it looks like the Reds and the Cards will battle it out till the end in the very sorry division and in the very competitive NL East it is a three way dog fight between the Braves, Mets and Phils as we head into the dog days of summer.
I was asked the other day what baseball streak do I remember the most and that really was an easy one as I was working in the Stardust back in 1988 and it was the start of baseball season. The Baltimore Orioles lost their first 13 games and a player decided that he would bet $500 and keep doubling until they won, after they lost their 20th straight game he was last seen and I mean the last time anyone saw this guy was standing on the roof of the Mint downtown ready to take the leap of faith.
The one thing is that the O’s did lose their next game losing 21 straight to start the season and I knew another bettor who after that 20th win was driving a spanking new 1988 Caddy. Now you know once again how to play streaks, do you want the roof of the Mint or a trip to the Caddy dealer.
And speaking about trips, I took a little ride out to Henderson this past week and stopped off at the Eldorado Casino and had a nice visit with Wayne Braddock who runs the Jokers Wild and the Eldorado for the Boyd Group.
What a nice city Henderson is and it reminds me a lot of Steubenville; it is laid back and clean as a pin as was the Eldorado. If you just want to have a lazy day it is a short drive.
Palace Station will be bringing back race comp Saturdays every Saturday in the month of July; this is one of my favorite promos as you get a ticket for every $20 wager and after every race at Hollywood they have a drawing for comps and they give away some good ones, stop by and say hi, as I will be sitting in row one non smoking and I will have a horse or two for you.
