They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Personally, I don’t discriminate. I like them all equally.
But if you’re looking for a great home-cooked breakfast I found a quaint little place tucked away in Southern Highlands. Rise & Shine, a Steak and Egg Place (10690 Southern Highlands Parkway) serves breakfast and lunch from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
There are a lot of different places that serve the breakfast and lunch crowd around the Las Vegas valley but this neighborhood restaurant takes making you feel at home to a new level.
All the waiters and waitresses are serving you in their pajamas. It adds a cute touch to the restaurant and makes it a fun place the minute you walk in.
On my first visit here I had Steak n Eggs for breakfast. After all, when you have steak and eggs in your name how could I not? My eggs were cooked just the way I like them and my steak was a nice 8 ounce Rib-eye. You get three eggs, a nice steak and hash browns.
Their hash browns may have been the best I have had in Vegas. You get a choice of toast, biscuit or a pot of bread, which is a cinnamon roll baked in a little cup served fresh and hot. This was a very nice little sweet treat to go along with the breakfast. This meal was huge and I was quite happy with all of my food choices.
After a breakfast this big I was ready to go back to bed. I enjoyed the meal so much I made a second visit a few days later as I had been thinking about the Chocolate Chip Red Velvet pancakes someone at another table ordered on my first visit.
Yes, I had been obsessing about the pancakes for a few days. The plate of pancakes was huge and since they were Red Velvet they were covered with Cream Cheese syrup. It was like having dessert for breakfast and there is never anything wrong with that. I have had red velvet pancakes at other places around town but never of the chocolate variety, which just put these on the top of my list.
My wife had the Ham & Cheese Omelet with Hash Browns and a biscuit. She was very happy with her choice and agreed the hash browns were some of the best she’s ever had. Luckily for her my stack of pancakes was too much for me to finish so I shared and let her have a taste.
If you want a more healthy breakfast choice you can create your own Yogurt Parfait. You start with vanilla yogurt then pick one item from three different columns. You choose either a berry sauce or honey for your first choice. Your second choice is fresh strawberries, blueberries or bananas.
Your final option is to pick either granola or pecans for your topping. Your custom built Yogurt Parfait is just $5.50 for a light healthy breakfast.
I have to go back and try some of the lunch items as they have a full array of burgers, salads and wraps. They also have homemade Tomato and French Onion Soup daily.
I can’t stress how much I enjoy finding these little mom and pop-type restaurants. It’s such a refreshing change from the big chains or casino cafes. This is a neighborhood restaurant, if you live in Southern Highlands, you’re very lucky to have. If you don’t live there it’s worth the drive to check it out.
Rise & Shine was quite a find and the staff was fun and friendly, but how could they not be in their pajamas. The servings were big and the food was excellent. I give it 3.75 Forks out of 4.
