California-bred $20K optional claimers travel a flat mile on the turf. No. 1 Rustic Canyon won at Santa Anita at this level and distance. No. 5 First Prez won at first asking when going 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass and will like the longer trip today. No. 6 Fly to Mars has run good here at Del Mar in the past. 1-5-6

Race 7

$50K maiden 2-year-old fillies go six furlongs. No. 1 Chevelita tried straight maidens on the grass in her debut and now finds a much softer spot. No. 2 Brilliant Cut will like the drop and the move back to the dirt. 2**-1

Race 8

California-bred 2-year-old maidens go five furlongs on the grass. No. 3 The Corey was bet like a good thing first out but could only muster a 5th place finish after displaying big early speed. No. 5 Theluteismine ran good in his debut when traveling a flat mile on the grass and will love the turnback to a turf sprint. 3-5
