Saber’s Del Mar analysis for Sunday
Race 1
$40K optional fillies and mares go five furlongs on the grass. No. 9 Superstition fits here off her maiden breaker on this course. No. 4 Greg’s Diva has hit the board in all five of his races including his maiden win here on the turf. 9-4
Race 2
$20K maidens go 6 1/2 furlongs. No. 4 Air Jockey just failed to hold here going six furlongs back in August and now the bug girl Jessica Pyfer gets the leg up. No. 5 Chosen Moon comes off the layoff and makes a lot of changes. He drops in class and gets Lasix and blinkers on in this his first start as a gelding. No. 8 Anatolia drops in class and jockey Manny Franco riding. 4-5-8
Race 3
Maiden 2-year-olds travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Cathkin Peal is in from Ireland for trainer Phil D’Amato and could be very live. No. 3 Dixie’s Two Stents has been over his head in his last two races and now is right where he should be. No.12 Airman will go much better today in this his second start. 1-3-12
Race 4
$12,500 fillies and mares go seven furlongs. No. 2 Just Grace moves up in class off a very game win here and gets her first start off the Peter Miller claim. No. 5 Perfect Ice Storm comes off a nice win going a flat mile. 2-5
Race 5
$40K optional claimers travel 1 1/16 miles on the turf. No. 4 Anaconda looked great breaking his maiden first out here on Nov. 7 and he is bred to go long. No. 6 Via Egnatia won a $40K optional flat mile on the grass here the same day. No. 9 Whisper Not is in from over the pond and gets jockey Joel Rosario riding for trainer Richard Baltas. 4-6-9
Race 6
$20K claimers travel a flat mile. No. 2 Cosa Nostra is back at his best distance and the price is right. No. 4 Pepe Tono takes a big class drop and gets the hard trying Juan Hernandez riding. No. 7 Polar Wind also drops and the blinkers go on. 2-4-7
Race 7
The $100K Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille for 2-year-olds traveling a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Ebeko was a solid second on this grass course in the Del Mar Juvenile Turf when finishing behind No. 7 Big Fish. He then came back and beat Big Fish at Santa Anita in the Zuma Beach. No. 3 Cotopaxi finished right behind the top two as did No. 9 Caisson. 1-7-3-9
Race 8
California-bred maiden 2-year-old fillies go six furlongs. We will take a shot here and single No. 7 Lauren Squared who finds a great spot for his debut. 7***
Race 9
The $300K Grade 1 Matriarch at a flat for fillies and mares. Super trainer Chad Brown sends out the very fast No. 4 Blowout with jockey Flavien Prat riding. No. 5 Juliet Foxtrot is also very fast and jockey Mike Smith rides for trainer Brad Cox. If these two get into a slugfest it will set things up for No. 6 Viadera and No. 8 Bodhicitta from off the pace. With that said, No. 9 Tamahere is also in for Brown and is the one to beat. 9***-4-5-6-8
Race 10
$50K optional 2-year-olds go six furlongs. Trainer Peter Miller sends out the uncoupled entry of No. 7 None Above Law and No. 4 Ruthies Racer. Jockey Joel Rosario gets on No. 9 Swift as I Am who will look to wire this field. 9-7-4
