Saber’s Del Mar analysis for Thursday

Race 1

$40K maiden 2-year-olds travel a flat mile. This is a wide-open race and nothing would be a surprise. We will take a swing and use No. 3 Papale, who gets off the grass and drops from straight maiden races. After him this race calls for the all button. 3 (all)

Race 2

California-bred maidens travel 1 1/16 miles on the grass. No. 2 Mamba Cool has run back-to-back good efforts going a flat mile on the turf. Today the blinkers go on and jockey Umberto Rispoli gets his shot. No. 5 Cool Your Jets just missed last out when finishing in front of Mamba Cool and No. 9 One Fast Bro. 2-5-9

Race 3

$40K claimers go 6 1/2 furlongs. We always take notice when jockey Joel Rosario comes back West to ride, especially when riding for trainer Peter Miller. Rosario gets on No. 4 Julius who has won 3 of his 5 races here at Del Mar. No. 6 Leading Score looks very live off the layoff. No. 7 Horse Greedy ran big last out and came back with a real nice last work. No. 9 Lionite finished right behind Horse Greedy last out. 7**-4-9-6

Race 4

$80K optional 3-year-old fillies travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Beguiled just did miss here at Del Mar last out at this level and distance and now jockey Flavien Prat gets his shot. No. 3 Avenue de France finished right behind Beguiled and had a very wide trip. No. 4 Applecross gets jockey Joel Rosario in the irons for trainer Richard Baltas. No. 7 Over Attracted draws the services of jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. who is in town. 1-3-4-7

Race 5

$20K maidens travel a flat mile. No. 2 Most Sandisfactory has hit the board in 9 of his 11 starts. No. 3 Western Smoke takes the ultimate class drop as he moves from straight maiden races to this $20K maiden claimer and this is his first try as a gelding. 2-3

Race 6

The $100K Grade 3 Red Carpet at 1 3/8 miles on the grass for fillies and mares. No. 1 California Kook has been meeting much better and now jockey Rosario gets the leg up for trainer Peter Miller. Trainer Chad Brown brings in No. 4 Orglandes with Irad Ortiz Jr. in the irons. Trainer Grahm Motion ships in No. 8 Blame Debbie who is looking for her fourth straight win. 1-4-8

Race 7

$20K claimers go six furlongs. The hot-riding Flavien Prat makes a rare ride for trainer Jonathan Wong on No. 6 Smileforme, who ships down from Northern California for this. No. 10 Octopus has two lifetime wins and both came here at Del Mar. No. 1 Satchel de Ritches is in from Keeneland and gets his first start off the Bob Hess Jr. claim. 10-1-6

Race 8

$50K optional claimers travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 7 Turn the Switch will sit chilly off a fast early pace and make one run as will No. 10 Hoop Dream. 2-10
