Saber’s Del Mar analysis for Saturday
Race 1
$16K fillies and mares go 5 1/2 furlongs. No. 1 Sherilinda comes off a good second here in her first try at this level. No. 4 Canadian Ginger comes off a very easy maiden win and is the stablemate of Sherlinda. 1-4
Race 2
Maidens go 6 1/2 furlongs and we get a compact six-horse field. Trainer Bob Baffert sends out the uncoupled entry of No. 1 Seiche with jockey Mike Smith riding for his debut race. Jockey Abel Cedillo rides the other Baffert runner, No. 6 Midnight Mystery, who gets his second start off the layoff. 6**-1
Race 3
Maidens go five furlongs on the turf. Trainer Peter Miller sends out first-time starter No. 3 Cem Sultan and the good grass rider Umberto Rispoli takes the mount. No. 5 Much More Halo comes off a solid second at this level and distance last out and jockey Mike Smith is back on today. No. 6 Graziano looks live first out for trainer Simon Callaghan. No. 8 Tilted Tower had a rough trip last out vs Much More Halo. 3**-5-6-8
Race 4
$50K starter allowance runners travel a flat mile. No. 1 Ronamo can be depended on to at least hit the board as he has been in the money in 12 of his 15 races. No. 3 Negotiator comes off big maiden win in his first dirt start. 1-3
Race 5
2-year-old maidens travel a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Eagle in the Sky stretches out after back to back seconds sprinting and now gets jockey Umberto Rispoli in the irons. No. 4 Caisson was even money first out at this mile turf distance. 4**-1
Race 6
California bred 2-year-old maidens go 5 1/2 furlongs. No. 1 Father O’Flaherty was well bet first out when finishing third. No. 6 C’Mon Jenna ran an even fourth when finishing right behind Father O’Flaherty and we like jockey Juan Hernandez riding today. 1**-6*
Race 7
California bred $20K optional claimers go five furlongs on the turf. No. 1 Foster Boi gets his second start off the layoff and owns a big last work. No. 2 Undeniable Proof just did miss last out at this level and distance on the grass. No. 5 Doc Tommy gets his second start off the layoff and exits the same last race as Foster Boi and Undeniable Proof. 1-2-5
Race 8
2-year-old maiden fillies go 5 1/2 furlongs. Once again, trainer Bob Baffert sends out two live runners with No. 4 Illumination who cost $900K and No. 1 Kalypso who gets jockey Victor Espinoza up in a rare ride for Baffert. No. 2 Park Avenue cost $450K and makes her first start off a group of solid works. 4***-2-1
Race 9
The $125K Solano Beach for California bred fillies and mares traveling a mile on the grass. No. 2 Cordiality likes it here at Del Mar and won this race last year. No. 4 Mucho Unusual has been meeting Grade 1 open company. 2-4
Race 10
$50K starter allowance runners go six furlongs. No. 6 Pyron is in from Kentucky and finds a claim-proof spot first off the $40K claim. No. 1 Zimba Warrior comes off a big win here on July 25 and he also becomes claim- proof off the claim. 6-7
Race 11
$32K claimers travel 1 1/16 miles on the turf. No. 6 Mithqaal is in from Golden Gate and looks to have found a live spot. No. 7 Acker has been facing tougher and will go better at this level. No. 9 Never Easy gets jockey Flavien Prat riding first off the claim. 6-7-9
