SANTA ANITA

Race 1

We get six runners lined up before scratches, No. 5 Girl Downstairs has never lived up to Bafferts hopes but it’s a good sign that she stays at this level and Bejarano sticks with here. No. 6 Nazareth gets her first start off the Mulhall claim, she gets off the grass and back sprinting and we see a big improve with Tyler getting the call. 5-6

Race 2

20k maidens go 7 furlongs and the leading trainer drops No. 1 Papa Joey looking for the win, beat him albeit at a short price. Interesting that Kent D gets on first time starter No. 7 Splendid Cause for Leonard Powell, the price will be right and this one can be used in the exotics at big price. 1-7

Race 3

50k optional claimers go 7 furlongs. No. 2 Pachalitsa just one at this tough distance one race back and she gets Prat today, she is the only runner in here to win at the distance and we will single in the pick five. 2

Race 4

Maiden 2yo travel five furlongs, of the nine entered only three have run, No. 8 The Lion Roars ran a good race going 4-1/2 furlongs in his first start here on June 19th but has not worked since, No. 7 We Go Now ran third in his one start here on June 3rd and has worked two times since. No. 6 Yodelers Way finished second five lengths in front of We Go Now. Those are the three that have run and that leads us to first time starters, O’Neill sends out two, No. 2 Sizzlin Square with Mario Gutierrez riding for O’Neill’s top owner Reddam and No. 4 Amodei with Bejarano getting the call. Kent D gets on No. 5 Unnamed Source for Dan Blacker, he looks live. The best work goes to No. 1 Informed Spirit who worked here on  the 25th at 4 furlongs 6th best of 71 that day. We move to the bottom, No. 9 Enter the Code is out of the dam Daylight Thief who has dropped 4 winners from 4 starters and he has long shot jockey Brandon Boulanger riding, he could light up the tote. Look for the best odds in this wide open race.

Race 5

THE 100K GRADE 3 AFFIRMED AT 1 1/16

No. 5 Danzing Candy who was on the Kentucky Derby trail makes his first start for his new trainer Bob Baffert and gets Mike Smith and he looks even money with this crew, pick five single. 5

Race 6

20k maiden 3yo go 7 furlongs which is the distance of choice today. No. 1 Little Mustard has been stuck in second in his last three starts and now Bejarano gets his shot. No. 5 Rideo comes off the layoff for papa Mandella, he drops in class and gets Prat who was on Mustard the last three times. No. 7 Seattle Boom comes back to town after a trip to Golden Gate for two races, he comes here sporting bullets and gets a drop in class and Maldo gunning from the bell. No. 8 Skookum Spirit looks the speed of the speed. 1-5-7-8

Race 7

$12,500 claimers go the distance of choice today, 7 furlongs. No. 1 Where’s Bubba has run this distance four times with a win, second and two thirds. No. 8 Angels Journey ran good last out at this level going a mile, he will like this distance and gets a good post and jockey Joe Talamo got the feel of this gelding in that race. 1-8

Race 8

They go a flat mile in this 25k optional claimer. No. 1 Pioneerof the West looked good winning here last out at this distance and could come right back at a better price today. No. 3 John’s Success and No. 4 To the Bar both drop in class and test the dirt, neither has won on the dirt in the past but at this level that could change. No. 5 Rare Candy gets a big drop in class and looks the speed. 1-3-4-5

Race 9

In the last race of the day we get 8k claimers going a mile. No. 4 Jonny’s Choice is in good form and gets a break in the weights with the bug boy Chad Lindsay riding. No. 9 Misdeed gets his first start off the Dean Greenman claim and gets Flavien Prat to ride.
