Del Mar

Race 1

Of all the horses entered in here No. 5 Akkadian looks to be the one that is in the best form. This race is very wide open, but we will key on Akkadian. 5

Race 2

20k maiden fillies and mares travel 7 furlongs. No. 7 Pumpkin Pie drops back to the price she was claimed for. Today looks like the money run. 7

Race 3

We go 1 1/8 on the grass in the Grade 1 Eddie Read. No. 3 Acclamation won this race last year and is looking for her 7th straight win. She will be very hard to catch on this turf course. No. 5 Slim Shadey is back in town after a quick trip to Monmouth and now Gomez will take over. He was second behind Acclamation in the Charles Whittingham. 3-5

Race 4

Trainer John Sadler has been on fire and he sends out comebacker No. 2 Solar Wind who broke her maiden her last year right out of the box. Carla Gaines sends out No. 3 Winding Way who exits our HTW list off a resounding win in her fist start. No. 7 Lanida gets her second start off the layoff and she has never been worst than second in all three of her lifetime starts. 2-3-7

Exacta box 2-3-7

Race 5

No. 4 Skip Tony and No. 6 Yankee Dan will both be out winging it on the front end in this mile turf race. If they get caught up in a pace duel No. 7 Trucial State could run them down. 4-6-7

Race 6

Bob Baffert sends out his usual two in this 2yo maiden 5 1/2 furlong sprint with first time starter No. 2 Rolling Fog and second time starter No. 10 Den’s Legacy. After that any of these well bred youngster can win. 2-10

Race 7

No. 6 Kumite gets his first start off the Hector Palma claim and Palma can strike first off the claim and this gelding is in top form. No. 8 Run for Miles has some good speed and did run second here last year. No. 11 Magic Beam drops back to the level of his narrow miss and he broke his maiden on this course last year. 6-8-11**

Exacta box 6-8-11 and win and place 11**

Race 8

No. 4 Byrony has done little wrong in his two US starts since shipping in from over the pond and now this filly will take on some tough girls. We think she can do and will single in the late pick four. 8

Race 9

Gryder gets back on No. 2 Temerity who he won with the only other time he rode. No. 8 Adriatic Moon was scratched out of a much tougher race on opening day for this spot. He likes this course and gets his first start off the Mike Mitchell claim. 2-8

Race 10

We end the day at Del Mar with maidens going 1 1/16 on the grass. No. 5 Bandolim is a first time starter who is bred for the grass. No. 7 Dreamcatcher is the one to beat off his last two races. No. 8 Corinthian’s Song takes the blinkers off and gets Gomez. 5-7-8

Leparoux is back and will ride the well traveled No. 2 Great Mills who won the 5 1/2 furlong Quick Call here last year. No. 7 Bridgetown is a perfect 3 for 3 sprinting on the Toga grass. No. 5 Perfect Officer will be the one to fear late with Rosie in the irons. 2-5-7

Race 6

No. 4 Kris Royal ships in for this grass race. He is bred for it and this trainer is ultra dangerous and the price could be right. Pletcher brings back No. 8 Never On Time. He may be better now that he is a 3yo. No. 11 Night Site is very unlucky to still be a maiden as he just missed in his last three races. 4-8-11

Race 7

No. 6 John Joe blew them away at 40/1 when put on the grass with 25k maiden open company and he may fit with these statebreds on the grass. No. 9 Headingtothecity is a two time winner and has won on this course. He worked a bullet here best of 27 going 5 furlongs on the grass on July 16th. No. 12 Yankee Kitten comes off the layoff for trainer Chad Brown and he may like it here. 6-9-12

This is the start of the big late pick four. No. 9 Troubleinrivercity gets stretched out after making a nice late run in his first turf try going 6 furlongs. No. 12 Reserve Currency drops into an action spot for Mott and Alvarado. 9-12

Race 9

Trainer Mott brings back No. 1 Bellamy Brew who won in his only start last year and it was at this 7 furlong distance. The pace will be set by No. 3 Saint of Saints, No. 2 Shrewd One and No. 5 Spin Out. 1-2-3-5

Race 10

Rosie Napravnik rides for Todd Pletcher on No. 2 Disposablepleasure who just got beat by 3/4 for a length in the Grade 1 Mother Goose. No. 5 Zo Impressive was the filly who beat Disposablepleasure. Pletcher also sends out No. 6 In Lingerie who has done little wrong in her four races winning three with one second. She sports a sharp 4 furlong work here on the 15th and the riding combo of Javier Castellano and Pletcher have been deadly. 2-5-6**
