SANTA ANITA

Race 1

No. 3 Cuvee Exchange looked good when breaking her maiden first out of the box for trainer John Sadler here on December 31st by more than six lengths. No. 4 One Fast Frog gets off the grass and back to the surface and distance of her maiden breaker. Her last two works say she is on go. 3-4

Race 2

No. 4 Kirkoroth is in from Keeneland for trainer Michael Ewing who has some live ones at the meet. This 3yo gelding will be a nice price play. Tyler Baze gets on first time starter No. 6 Shakerattlenrule who looks live in this 30k maiden claimer. 4-6

Race 3

4yo and up maiden fillies go down the hill. No. 2 Saturday’s Girl gets Bejarano and if she can clear early she will be hard to catch. Leparoux replaces Bejarano on No. 3 Corinthian Melody who will be making a late run. No. 6 Scat Patty is a first time starter who is bred for the grass. No. 9 Bromelia gets a turn back in distance and show a very sharp 6 furlong drill for this her first try sprinting. 2-3-6-9

Key tri 9 with 2-3-6 with 2-3-6 and 2-3-6 with 9 with 2-3-6

Race 4

The one time No. 4 Town Belle ran on the dirt she got the win. No. 6 Hout Bay gets off the grass and back to her favorite surface where she has hit the board in six of her seven starts. 4-6

Race 5

No. 4 Doubledown On Ten drops trying to score. He will be out winging today. No. 7 San Savino follows him down the ladder and he will be chasing from the bell. No. 12 An Shanachie is in from Churchill Downs and drops into a maiden claimer for the first time. He will also show speed from the far outside post. 4-7-12

Exacta box 4-7-12

Race 6

Trainer Jeff Mullins who is looking for his first win at the meet sends out the lightly raced No. 2 He’s Not too Shaby who broke his maiden here back in October by more than four lengths. No. 3 Sacred Ovation gets his first start off the Peter Miller claim and he will be showing all his early speed today with the blinkers going on. No. 7 Derringer gets his first start off the win here and the John Sadler claim as he adds more speed to the fray. 2-3-7

Race 7

They go a flat mile on the grass. The one time that Cory Nakatani rode No.  6 Unusual Beam he got the win. This 5yo gelding will find a very fast pace to make his late run. No. 7 Unusual Jazz could set off a very unusual exacta as he will also be making a late charge at the tiring speed. 6-7

Race 8

Maiden fillies and mares going 5 ½ furlongs for a 20k price tag. Early speed usually rules these type of races here in Southern California, but there is just a ton of early speed in this one. No. 5 Pastoria gets her second start off the layoff and she is loaded with early foot. The two first time starters both may have a shot; No. 1 Secret of Success with Bejarano riding for Carla Gaines and that is always a good sign and No. 12 Cherry On the Cake who could pop at a big big price. 1-5-12

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 3 Backwoods Belle is the speed in here and will be very hard to catch alone on the front end. 3

Race 2

I look for jockey Dennis Carr to sit off the hot pace with No. 4 Risky Road and pounce down the lane. 4

Race 3

No. 1 Sweet Tess will be very tough in this her second start. She was well bet in start number one. No. 2 Life Is a Stone gets stretched out by Hollendorfer in this her third start and could find herself on a lonesome lead. No. 5 Catrageous is in from Hollywood for trainer John Sadler. 1-2-5

Race 4

This one is scheduled to be run at a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Slim Pickens has won two straight on this grass including his last start at this mile distance. No. 4 Sandor is in top form and can run on any surface. 1-4

Race 5

Since none on the ones that have met the starter in this 20k maiden claimer look like they can win, we will go with two first time starters No. 3 Aerial Mark and No. 7 Dalek. 3-7

Race 6

No. 2 Zambra Mora ships North and takes the big drop to the bottom but R Baze rides so we must take notice and she will not find an easier spot. No. 7 Aunt Emma usually puts in a late run. 2-7

Race 7

This one is scheduled to be run at 1 1/16 on the grass as we search for a play. No. 1 Outdoorsman Gene is on a win every other race pattern and this is his win race. No. 3 Full Dancer is the speed and will try and take them back to back. No. 6 Janero had a horrible trip last time out and gets moved up in class. 1-3-6

Exacta box 1-3-6

Race 8

The low profile jockey/trainer combo of Jorge Espitia and Rodney Cone have 3 wins, a second and a third from their last five hookups. No. 2 Paseo Alegro is the hookup horse. We will take our shot with him.
