We start a huge day at Santa Anita today with full fields featuring the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby with 100 points going to the winner and a spot in the starting gate on May 4th. 

Down the hill we go to start the day. No. 6 Art Official took plenty of action in his first start and his first going down the hill, he had trouble and now Maldo takes over, we will bet. 6

No. 11 Cherry on the Cake is perfectly spotted off the big maiden breaker and this jockey trainer combo have won five of their last eight hookups together. 11

Race 3

The high priced late bloomer No. 4 Declassify has the works to win albeit at a short price for the hot combo of Baffert and Garcia. Trainer Ron Ellis sends out two live first time starters No. 5 Wise Boss and No. 8 Drover Crazy. 4-5-8

Race 4

3-year-old maidens go a mile on the grass. No. 2 Buckleberry Grey has had his chances but the move back to a route and with Gomez getting on today could be the day. No. 11 Cacau has some long shot potential, he has a huge last work and had a ton of trouble in his one and only race. 2-11

Can any of these beat the odds on No. 6 Beholder? No. 4 Fiftyshadesofhay tracked her last time out and finished a game second and her stablemate No. 1 Black Witch may try and take it to Beholder early.

No. 2 Comma to the Top looks to be the speed of the speed with Maldo gunning from the bell. No. 3 Camp Victory comes off a little layoff and gets off the grass, his last work was a sizzler. No. 8 Jimmy Creed looks to be sitting on another big effort and he has been working with a purpose since that big win in the Grade 1 Malibu here going 7 furlongs. 2-3-8

THE GRADE 3 PROVIDENCIA

We will take our shot with a price play in here and key on No. 8 Flashy Ways who could get a good setup in here and the price will be right. 8

THE GRADE 1 SANTA ANITA DERBY

No. 1 Flashback will try and turn the tables on No. 2 Hear the Ghost who he didn’t hear last time when the Ghost flew by him. No. 3 Power Broker makes his long awaited 3-year-old debut after a troubled run in the BC Juvenile here last November, he will sit and try and make one big run. 1-2-3

Race 10

No. 4 Points Offthebench comes off the bench sporting some solid drills. No. 6 Tummel loves this track and has won 4 of his 8 starts here. No. 12 Gonna Fly Now comes off the layoff also bringing in some huge works. 4-6-12

Race 11

No. 4 East Sky exits our HTW list off a narrow loss on this turf course on March 10th. He gets his first start off the Mike Mitchell claim and a huge rider upgrade, today could be the day to get that elusive win number two. 4

Race 1

No. 5 Caution is Key and the key to this race is caution. 5

Race 2

No. 4 Captain Hadley comes off a nice maiden breaker at Santa Anita and now Hollendorfer ships in and runs in this very soft starter allowance race going a mile on the grass; the one to beat! 4

Race 3

No. 2 Skyribbon is in top form and gets his first start off the Martin claim. No. 5 Cost of Freedom is a 10-year-old who still has some run in him, he has hit the board in 9 of his 11 starts here albeit with 7 seconds. No. 7 Diamond of Blue just got caught by the Cost of Freedom last time out. 2-5-7

Race 4

No. 3 As Good as Gold is bred to like the grass. He gets his second start and ships in from a last place finish back in November at Hollywood Park and exits a huge key race, he could wake up. No. 4 Unusual Meeting has been plugging away on the synthetic surface, he is bred for the grass and will go good today. No. 5 Street Maven ships in off a good try on the Santa Anita grass, Carr rides and he looks the one to beat. No. 6 Heat Streaker just got beat on the bob last time out going a mile on the main, he may like the grass and has a big last work. 3-4-5-6

Race 5

Second time starter No. 1 Suicide Curves will go better today with a clean break. No. 9 Romance Is Passion ships in from Santa Anita, lands in the Steve Miyadi barn and finds a real easy spot. 1-9

Race 6

No. 3 Janero will be making a big late run. No. 6 Farmer Giles loves this turf course and will be hard to beat. No. 12 Gatheratthealter has won both of his turf starts here. 3-6-12

No. 4 Gifted Prince ships in looking for easier. No. 6 Bird Colonel will be making his usual late run but is usually too late. No. 9 Mr. Reaburn comes off a bad trip and will win today with a clean trip. 4-6-9

In today’s feature here at the gate we go a mile on the grass. Neil Drysdale brings in No. 1 Charlemagne Wood who had his prep going down the hill at Santa Anita. The old pro No. 8 Bourbon Bay has been facing much stronger. This race is very wide open and has all the looks of a price. All
