SANTA ANITA

Race 1

We start our huge 11 race card today with 3yo maiden fillies going 5½ furlongs and there is a ton of early speed signed on for this on a track that could be jazzed up for the big races, we will need to keep an eye out for any speed bias. If its big race day in California we usually see Joel Rosario making his trek here and he is on No. 2 Dancinginthestreet who gets off the grass and will be making a big late run if the track is playing fair. Bejarano sticks with No. 1 Faith Hope Love who will be the likely chalk, he will sit right off the hot pace and get the jump on Rosario. To top things off we get Gary Stevens riding the Richard Mandella first time starter No. 6 Satirical who is out of the dam Rockcide and she has dropped 3 winners from 3 starters including a stakes winner. 1-2-6

Race 2

Now we get 3yo maidens going a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Snuggley Bear has been up against it in his last four starts running against the like of Hoppertunity, Bayern, Midnight Hawk and Indianapolis. He gets back on the grass and his one run on the green going down the hill was ok. No. 7 Cowtownmary may be the speed of the speed. Hall of Fame trainer Ron McAnally don’t win may nowadays but has a big shot with No. 3 Pantera Rojo who just did miss last time out at this distance. 1-3-7

Race 3

In this very tough players pick five they now stick in a $12,500 claiming race before another maiden race. If No. 1 Sheriff Ryan can steer clear of trouble from his rail post he has a shot at running them down late a what will be a good price. The speedy No. 5 Pass the Pico gets his first start off the Julio Canani claim off a good second here by a neck when Rosario rode him the last time he was here, he will gun from the bell. No. 10 Quick Cielo gets a turn back to a sprint and a drop in class as he gets off the grass, he will find a hot pace to come running late at a good price. 1-5-10

Race 4

We have 5 first time starters in this 6½ furlong sprint for 3yo. Of the ones that have run No. 2 Rough Passage who gets his 5th start may have found a crew he can beat. No. 5 Ferocious just missed in his one and only start by a dwindling head. No. 9 Act gets his second start and was well bet in his first with Gray Stevens riding for John Sadler but there were only five runners in that race. The two best looking first time starters look to be No. 1 Cotton Valley for trainer Mike Puype with Tyler Baze and No. 3 Talent Show for Bob Baffert. WIDE OPEN

Race 5

The Players Pick Five ends with the Grade 2 San Felipe and 50 Kentucky Derby points! The Cal Bred California Chrome just exploded down the lane to win going away against Cal Breds and will have his work cut out for him today coming off the hot pace. With Bayern out with a minor injury this will favor the very speedy No. 7 Kristo who just finished second behind the other Baffert runner in here No. 9 Midnight Hawk who then finished 3rd behind Candy Boy in the Robert Lewis. All and all Mr. B looks to hold the two aces in here with Kristo and Midnight Hawk and those will be our two in the last leg. 7-9

Race 6

THE ONE MILE TURF 75K CHINA DOLL

No. 1 Annivesary Kitty who exits our HTW list was scratched last week when the race came off the grass. She finds a spot today and will be making her usual big late run but the pace looks to come up soft with no huge big early speed, so who gets the front end? Tom Proctor has three entered and his buddy Gary Stevens gets on No. 8 Diversy Harbor who made an eye popping move from 10th to first going down the hill in her fist start. He also has No. 5 Seven Goddess who Stevens rode last time to get the win now gets the visiting Rosario who is on a ton of live runners today. No. 11 On the Backstreets will be on or near the front end, she comes off of back-to-back wins going down the hill but runs like she will like a mile. Tom Proctors 3rd runner in here is No. 12 Savings Account who gets Mike Smith back, she just missed in the Grade 2 Miesque at defunked Hollywood Park last November by a head with Gryder riding. To Make things even tougher Kent Desourmeaux is in town and he picks up the mount on No. 13 Full Ransom who has done little wrong since moving to the grass and going long, she has two wins and a second. With all that said and done and after viewing the race that No. 8 Diversy Harbor ran we will opt for her. 8

Race 7

THE GRADE II SAN CARLOS GOING 7F

The last time No. 1 Sahara Sky won was when Joel Rosario rode him in the Grade 1 Met Mile and now in this his second start off the layoff and second since winning the Met Mile Rosario comes to town and gets the leg up again on Sahara Sky. No. 10 Shakin It Up may have turned into Bafferts best runner and this 7 furlongs is his best distance, bet him to cash. No. 4 Big Macher could be the buy of buys in California as he was picked up for 20k, he may be the speed of the little speed in here and he gets the hot Florida jock Luis Saez in the irons and he will be gunning from the bell. 1-4-10**

Key exacta box 10 with 1-4 and 1-10

Race 8

THE 350K GRADE I FRANK E. KILROE GOING A MILE ON THE GRASS

No. 4 Suggestive Boy is taking the same route as he did last year when he won this race. No. 5 Za Approval just did miss to horse of the year Wise Dan in his last start in the BC Mile and Clement and Rosario are looking for redemption as I am losing at 18-1. We think that he gets it today and we will single in the late pick four. 5

Race 9

THE 750K GRADE I SANTA ANITA HANDICAP

No. 1 Will Take Charge looks to get revenge from his narrow loss to No. 2 Mucho Macho Man in the BC Classic here last November. No. 7 Game on Dude who may have seen better days looks to regroup if he can get a clear early lead which he should get. 1-2-7

Exacta box tri box 1-2-7

Race 10

No. 2 Chief Lion changed his style last time out when taking back and making a late run, just another very live runner that Rosario gets on. It took eleven starts for No. 8 Airfoil to break his maiden but he finally did and that last work says he could come right back. No. 9 Storm Fighter was tossed to the wolves last April, he comes back working a hole in the wind. No. 10 Secretsatmidnight gets his second start off the little layoff and gets back to sprinting. 2-8-9-10

Race 11

We finish off this very tough card with an optional claimer going a mile on the grass. No. 2 Cervaro has a win and a second in his two tries going a mile on the grass. Interesting that Saez sticks around to ride the last race for trainer Peter Eurton on No. 3 This One’s For Mel who also likes this distance. The same can be said for Kent D as he sticks to ride No. 4 Kochees. Rosario sticks around to ride the shipper from over the pond No. 5 African Oil for trainer Simon Callaghan who can strike with these shippers from Europe. All and all No. 3 This One’s for Mel may have a pace advantage over these and get the jump on the rest of the field. 3

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 3 Showme Yourfriends is back in town and owns a win over this synthetic surface, he looks the one to beat in here with Juan Hernandez getting the call. 3

Race 2

Anne Sanguinetti comes to town and gets on No. 3 Win Photos Will Do who she knows well as she rode this gelding to two wins at Emerald Downs. No. 4 Legal Victory gets his first start off the claim and narrow loss last time out. 3-4

Double

1st 3

2nd 3-4

Race 3

No. 2 Soldiers Point and No. 5 Zehner’s Zenna finished one two last time out with Point just beating Zenna by a ½ length, they could be one two again. 2-5

Race 4

We will opt for two droppers into the maiden claiming ranks for the first time No. 4 Bodrum who comes to town for Jerry H from Santa Anita and No. 6 Jackson Sundown for Steve Miyadi. 4-6

Race 5

No. 2 Shaun Washington drops back to the level of his last win one race back when Baze rode him. Baze is back on and at the same mile distance. No. 4 So Elite comes back to town after trying 1½ on the Santa Anita grass with much stronger. He gets back on the synthetic and gets Carr back on and he rode this 7yo gelding the last time he won here. 2-4

Race 6

Hernandez gets his second shot with No. 1 Call Him Paddy who just missed last time out, that last mile work has him fit and ready. No. 7 San Sebastian lost by a nostril one race back and now gets the man. 1-7

Pick three

4th 4-6

5th 2-4

6th 1-7

Race 7

No. 1 Doctor Glynis may be waking up as she has a bullet work of 1:13.3 for this. No. 2 Nothing to Hide is in from Santa Anita where she went down the hill in her one and only start, she now lands in the barn of Steve Sherman and also has a good last work. Jerry H sends out two with first time starter No. 5 On the Right Side whose dam has dropped 2 winners from 2 starters and No. 10 Lady Fifty Two and his old main man Baze gets the call. 1-2-5-10

Race 8

No. 1 Solar Tex is looking for the hat trick but No. 6 Nina’s Dragon at a big price will try and upset him.

1-6

Race 9

No. 1 My Secret Paradise gets the big drop in class. No. 5 Amounted also takes the big drop. No. 6 Papa’s Grandkids has had five chances at this 8k maiden claiming level but her last race was her best by far. No. 7 Princess Val was squeezed off in her one and only start and will go much better today with Baze getting on and we could actually get a fair price with Baze riding for the low profile Efrain Miranda.
