SANTA ANITA

Race 1

No. 3 Muchos Besos fits at this level and gets Maldonado in the irons first off the Craig Lewis claim. The last time this 5yo gelding won was when Maldo rode him. He will get a good set up today with all the early speed. We will take our shot and single in the players pick five. 3

Race 2

In this the second leg of the players pick five we get maiden 3yo fillies going down the hill. No. 2 Miss Super Quick is in from Belmont Park where she was last seen showing good early speed going 7 furlongs on the grass. She lands in the barn of papa Mandella and gets the services of Gary Stevens, she is bred to turf. Another hall of fame jockey Mike Smith stays on No. 4 La Sorella who showed a new style in her last start her second going down the hill as she was out dueling on the front end, she opened up down the lane but could not hold off the winner late. Corey Nakatani who is a top turf rider gets on No. 1 Sweet as a Rose who gets back to a sprint after back to back turf routes, she will be sitting chilly at the top of the lane and make one run. 1-2-4

Race 3

In leg three of the players pick five we get maiden $20k claimers 4yo and up going a 1-1/16. No. 1 Roman Tizzy just missed in his last start when dropped to this level for the first time and now gets the cozy rail. No. 3 Street Maven also just missed when dropped to this level for the first time in his last start. No. 4 We Have Lift Off tried to take them wire-to-wire in his last start also his first at the level. He gets Maldo today and if able to clear he could be long gone. 1-3-4

Exacta box 1-3-4 and win and place 4

Race 4

In the fourth leg of the players pick five we go from back-to-back maiden races to the Grade II SAN LUIS REY STAKES at a 1½ on the grass. No. 1 Vagabond Shoes just won the Grade 2 San Marcos going 1-1/4. No. 3 Lucayan who finished a fast closing 3rd behind Vagabond Shoes won at this distance one race back on the Grade II Hollywood Turf Cup and we love that last 7 furlong work 7 days ago. Tom Proctor and his buddy Gary Stevens hook up again with No. 5 Temeraine who may be ready for his best today. The one thing lacking in this race is early speed and that may fall into the style of No. 4 Fire With Fire the stablemate of Lucayan, he could be the upsetter. 1-3-4-5

Race 5

In the last leg of the players pick five we have a full field of 3yo first time starters so we will need to take a stand, but if you find a few more singles in the previous races you may want to hit the all button in this race. No. 4 Midnight Storm sired by Pioneerof the Nile the sire of one of this year’s Kentucky Derby early favorites Cairo Prince is out of the dam My Tina who has dropped 4 winners from 4 starters, he has a last work that says he is on go. No. 6 Gameboy Luke has the experience with 3 races, he has good early speed and the move to Maldonado means he will be gunning from the bell and the last five times he has been on a horse for Mark Glatt he won with three of them. 4-6

Race 6

Speed, speed and more early speed signed on for this mile turf race, so we will opt for two that will be picking up the tiring early speed. No. 2 Willyconker second off the layoff and back on the grass and No. 8 Stoney Fleece who will sit and make one big late run. 2-8

Race 7

No. 11 Paseo Alegro won last time out when exiting our HTW list. This 7yo gelding was a re-claim by Vann Belvoir and may sit right off the early pace today from his far outside post. Staying outside No. 12 Tuckers Point also comes off the win and is a perfect fit in here from mid-pack. 11-12

Race 8

THE $75K PASADENA AT 1 MILE ON THE GRASS

No. 1 Enterprising is 2-for-2 on the grass and 2-for-2 at this mile turf distance. Mike Smith gets the call on No. 4 Diamond Bachelor who has 2 wins and a second from his three turf starts all at this mile distance. No. 5 Quotient exits our HTW list off a huge maiden breaker when shipped in from Gulfstream Park by Tom Proctor who trains Enterprising, he now moves into the barn of John Sadler probably in a private purchase. 1-4-5

Race 9

One of Mike Mitchell’s best moves as he double drops No. 1 Just Dancing off a nice even third for $25k, this mare will love this 7 furlong distance. No. 6 Lil Cheyenne exits our HTW list off a very troubled 3rd in her last start, we will use these two in the late pick four. 1-6

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 1 Mr. Reaburn hates to win as he is just 1-for-26 but he has 11 seconds and 7 thirds and has a shot if he takes back again today like he did in his last start to get that elusive second win. No. 5 Thrills and Chills will show all of his early speed at this 4k level and could get brave on the front end. No. 6 Sanibel Sid also is searching for the elusive second win he has a shot today form the back at this level. 1-5-6

Race 2

Not much early speed in this mile race. No. 1 Uncle Enroy will be on or very near the front end, he is in good form and will be right there at the wire. No. 5 Magic Bert gets a double drop in class and will wake up today. 1-5

Race 3

We have two in this race that are exiting our HTW list; No. 1 Tribal Waters who finishes second in his first start when well bet despite racing very green, he has a very good last work for this; No. 4 Time Jumper who just missed by a head going a mile in his last start. Jockey Juan Hernandez rode both horses last time and he opts for Tribal Waters.1-4

Exacta box 1-4 and win and place 1

Race 4

The last time No. 2 What’s for Dinner went 6 furlongs he got the win and it was at this level. No. 3 Full Instinct is the speed of the speed, he has some problems but could get the win. No. 6 Ron’s Ranger comes off the layoff and gets a big drop in class. 2-3-6

Race 5

No. 1 Pat’s Back was unlucky to lose her last two races , she gets her win today. No. 3 Just After Sunset exits the same race as Pat and was just a length behind that one going 5½ furlongs, they go 6 furlongs today and she will be coming once again. 1-3

5th 1-3

Race 6

No. 2 Fly Blue drops to a level where he will be very hard to beat and his style fits perfectly in this mile race. No. 3 Atomic Rule won his last race and was just a ½ length behind Fly Blue one race back. No. 6 Shaun Washington drops into an action spot. 2-3-6

Race 7

$8k maidens go a mile on the synthetic. No. 4 Proud Comet has back to back 7 furlong works for this his third start and first going long, the price will be juicy. No. 6 Koos Is Loose will be the one to fear late as he gets another drop trying to find the winners circle. 4-6

Race 8

No. 1 Valley Cat just missed by ¾ of a length last time out behind Pepper Crown who came back to score again in his next start, he gets the cozy rail today and if he can stay out of trouble he has a big shot. No. 2 Nobel Kent is in from Santa Anita and gets his first start off the Andy Mathis claim, he is on a win every other race pattern and this is his win race. 1-2

Race 9

In the last race at the Gate today we get 3yo 8k maiden fillies, not many in here can run so a first time starter makes sense. No. 5 Saint Terrell fits the bill, she is out of the barn of Jeff Bonde who can strike with a first timer. No. 8 Wonderful Becky gets her second start, she was well bet in her first when showing good early speed but tiring turning for home, she will hold much better today as she gets a top jock and blinkers on. 5-8
