SANTA ANITA

Race 1

Tough way to start the players pick five as we get a 5½ furlong sprint for 50k maiden 3yo fillies and none of these girls have ever met the starter before. No. 2 Roman Wild gets Tyler Baze riding for Jeff Mullins and she has a very sharp 4 furlong work here on the 23rd. Baffert sends out the 95k Midnight Lute purchase No. 3 Lady Regina, she has a good work and Mr. B hits at around 28% with his first time maiden claimers. The bug boy Drayden Van Dyke gets on No. 5 Big Break for the hot Art Sherman barn and her dam Revealing has dropped 2 winners from her 2 starters. 2-3-5

Race 2

No. 2 Sushi Empire gets Nakatani back in the irons and her win came with him on board. With little early speed in here No. 4 Belle of the Fleet will find herself on the front end and if she takes to the grass and this downhill turf course coming over the dirt she could take them wire-to-wire. No. 5 Pillow is in from Ireland for trainer Simon Callaghan who can strike with these shippers and the fact the Bejarano gets the call is meaningful. 2-4-5

Race 3

In race three we get more 3yo maiden fillies except for the fact that this crew will not be in for a tag. Baffert has the main two with fourth time starter No. 3 Zensational Beauty who ran her best race last time out on a wet fast track. He also sends out first time starter No. 4 Front Range off a good 5 furlong work and this girl gets Gary Stevens. After those two anyone of the other first time starters could fire a big shot in this race. 3-4

Race 4

It gets no easier in this race for $12,500 claimers 4yo and up that have never won 2 races and looking at them we know why. No. 1 Clubhouse Rock took a long time off after his first start back in 2012 and came back and got the maiden breaker. He was over his head last time out and will go better today. No. 3 Tribal Smoke will be on or near the front end and he gets the hard trying Agapito Delgadillo in the irons,if able to clear the bottom horse he could be gone. No. 4 Mary Helen’s Storm will be making his usual last run to pick up a piece. 1-3-4

Race 5

No. 1 Miss Well Molded likes this turf course and is in top form but has never been this 1-1/8 distance and she moves from the barn of Peter Miller to Paul Aguirre first off the 40k claim. No. 5 Highly Rated just missed here at this distance when caught on the line once again. She will be winging it on the front end and will try and hold off the stalking No. 1 Miss Well Molded, No. 8 Love Tale and No. 7 Born Lucky. No. 1 Miss Well Molded may get the best trip and had the best record here and No. 8 Love Tale is the only runner that has won at the distance. 1-8

Race 6

Lots of early speed in this 1-1/16 route so we will look for a horse that will sit off the hot pace and run them all down late. Trainer Vladmir Cerin is good with shippers and he brings in No. 8 Honduran from Woodbine via Gulfstream Park, he has been on the sidelines for some time but that last work says he is on go and he gets Nakatani who will sit back and make a wide late run. No. 10 I Don’t Care Who is a four time winner on this course and can sit chilly off the hot pace and get the jump turning for home 8-10

Race 7

THE $75K AMERICAN BEAUTY GOING A MILE ON THE GRASS

We can never pass up the hook up of Tom Proctor and Gary Stevens and they hook up with No. 2 One Time Only who will be on or near the front end. No. 3 Unusual Hottie likes to win races and comes off a troubled trip last time out with better. No. 5 Bee Brave lost at even money last time out but gets back to a flat mile, she will be making a big late run. 2-3-5

Race 8

THE GRADE III TOKYO CITY GOING 1½ ON THE DIRT

These marathon races are all about the pace and there should be a good one here with No. 6 Blueskiesnrainbows attacking early looking for the front end. No. 4 Segway has some nice stamina building works and gets Stevens back in the irons and he won with this gelding the only time he rode him. 4-6

Race 9

The last race at Santa Anita today has maiden fillies and mares going a mile on the grass. No. 9 Seraphic Slew ran good when sent this turf distance in her second start, she was beaten that day by Magic Spot who came back and won her next start. No. 12 Van Dien Avenue is a 4yo who is very unlucky to still be a maiden. She actually broke her maiden at Del Mar last year at this mile turf distance but had her number taken down, today could be her day. The interesting runner in this race is No. 1 Turn On, a second time starter who ran a very even race in her first start when sent this mile turf distance, she could move forward big time off of that one race. 1-9-12

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 3 Gold Tie Please is in from Santa Anita, he gets the big drop in class and looks like a short price winner. 3

Race 2

Jockey Pedro Terrero has been on No. 2 Cavalla in her last two starts and both ended in a trip to the winners circle. No. 7 Nevaeh’s Promise has hit the board in all five of her starts here with 2 wins and 3 seconds and those two wins came in her last two starts, she now gets her first start off the Bill Morey claim. No. 5 Siberian Winter will get very brave on the front end if able to clear early. 2-5-7

Race 3

No. 1 Zehner’s Zenna just missed in his last two starts. The last by a dwindling neck and the one befored that by a ½ length, he will pick up the dying early speed today and get the win. 1

Win and place 1

Race 4

No. 3 Fashionably Rich ships in from Santa Anita, she gets a big class drop and lands in the barn of Steve Sherman. No. 5 Panda Power gets the sizzling hot combo of Baze and Hollendorfer, this first time starter will be there. 3-5

Race 5

The hard trying Silvio Amador gets the leg up on No. 6 Whilly Pink who looks to be sitting on a win, but needs a very patient ride. Juan Hernandez who was on Whilly last time out opts for No. 7 Statman Jerry who drops into an action spot. 6-7

Race 6

No. 3 Philosophic drops to the level of his last win, he is the one to beat at a very short price. No. 8 Majestic Moment ships in from Santa Anita and will be making a big late run. 3-8

Race 7

Peter Miller brings in the very fast No. 4 Beverly the Boss who just may put these away early but will need to deal with the also very fast No. 9 Global Rule. If these two get into a speed duel it will set up one of the two Bill Morey first time starters: No. 6 Finding Forestry whose dam has dropped 8 winners from 9 starters or No. 5 Emerald Green whose dam has dropped 3 winners from 3 starters. 4-5-6-9

Race 8

No. 2 Miranda Rose is in top form and looking for the hat trick. No. 6 Tribal Torch comes off a nice maiden breaker and will be making a late run at Rose. 2-6

Race 9

No. 1 Elda ships in and gets the big drop and Baze. No. 4 Trinistar has finished second in both of her starts at this 8k maiden claiming level and now will try going a mile. No. 6 Duchess Debbie has finished second in her last three starts including her last two at this mile distance. 1-4-6
