SANTA ANITA

Race 1

What a Kentucky Derby Saturday we have today as we start off with a low level claiming race before we get into the red meat. No. 5 Truly Beautiful gets her second start off the little layoff and drops into a real good spot. No. 6 Real Bright Boots also comes off the layoff and she gets the drops in class and gets off the grass, she just did miss on this dirt course last October. 5-6

Race 2

In this 20k maiden claimer No. 2 Mayie is a second time starter for trainer Marty Jones, this 4yo filly ran a better than looked third in her first start and can only move forward off of that one. Peter Miller sends out dropper No. 9 Gisele At Fonz’s who has big early speed and gets the bug boy Drayden Van Dyke, she will try and take them wire-to-wire. No. 11 Puttybadshark ran a good second in front of Mayie last time out, she looks to have found her level and is sitting on the win. 2-9-11

Exacta box 2-9-11

Race 3

Lots of early speed in here and that could set things up for a filly from off the pace if the track is playing fair, we should know that after the first two races. No. 5 Fanny Brice gets her first start off the claim, she has been going 7 furlongs in her last two starts and the move to this 6 furlong distance will have her going best late and we should get a fair price with Franco in the irons. 5

Win and place 5

Race 4

They go down the hill in the $75k Desert Code. No. 1 Schoolofhardrocks is a Rock Hard Ten colt who has been running against California Chrome and other top colts. He gets on the grass for the first time and is bred to like it and that last 5 furlong turf work says he will. No. 6 Home School comes off the layoff for O’Neill but he should like this trip and could be part of a school exacta. No. 7 Karma King ran ok going down the hill in his first off the layoff and gets the cozy outside post. 1-6-7

Race 5

This mile race is another that is plum full of early speed. No. 4 Myfundsarelo gets the stretch out and has shown the ability to come from out of it, he will get a good ride with Van Dyke getting the call and that light weight could get him home on top. No. 9 Mavericks Gun got the big win last time out when breaking his maiden by almost six lengths going away at 7 furlongs, he has run good with better going a mile on the grass and looks the one to beat. 4-9

Exacta box 4-9 and win and place 9

Race 6

Maiden fillies and mares going 6½ furlongs. No. 4 Runningwiththelute showed good early speed in her one and only and will hold better today. Jockey Bejarano with no Kentucky Derby mount gets on a live first time starter for Mark Glatt No. 10 Afleet Echo who has a sparkling 6 furlong work here on the 27th of April. 4-10

Race 7

$25k claimers go down the hill. No. 3 Koast owns three wins going down the hill and has a good work coming off the little layoff. Bejarano just missed the one time he was on No. 4 Showme Yourfriends when he went 6 furlongs on the turf at Hollywood with much better. No. 5 Candy’s Sunrise has two near misses going down the hill and is a must use. No. 6 Macias has won 3 of his four starts down the hill. No. 10 Grumpy Small Mouth is the speed on the outside in what is a real tough race. 3-4-5-10

Race 8

No. 4 Saticoy blasted them here last January when well bet going wire-to-wire. He must have some issues but we do get Bejarano in the irons. No. 5 Night Badger is another who comes off the layoff and he spits bullets in his holster, he will come out running. No. 6 Luca comes off the layoff and he ran great here last year as a 2yo winning two of his three stars along with a second. No. 11 Master Chef is very consistent and that is what you want at this level, he gets his first start off the claim and Fernando Perez can ride.

4-5-6-11

Race 9

In this mile turf race Jerry Hollendorfer sends out No. 2 Trelawny fist off the $40k claim. He has won twice here going a mile on the grass and that last work says he is ready. No. 5 Avare has good early speed and can get this trip. Like the connections of No. 9 Money Clip as Van Dyke does some of his best work for Tom Proctor who gave him his big shot. 2-5-9

Race 10

THE GRADE III PRECISIONIST

No. 7 Fury Kapcori is on a roll and this race is his to win as he looks for his fourth straight score, one way call as we will use him as our single in the late pick four. 7

Race 11

The day ends at Santa Anita with maiden $50k fillies and mares going a mile on the grass. No. 1 Lamazone was bet like a good thing when sent down the hill last time out but could only split the field. He goes a mile again and gets the cozy rail and race rider Aaron “nice guy” Gryder gets his shot for John Sadler. No. 5 Kissin Lucky Lips is on the improve and comes off a good second going a mile on the grass. No. 7 Scene Queen ran right behind those lucky lips last time out and now she gets Bejarano who is one of the best grass riders here. No. 9 Dow Diva finally gets a drop into a maiden claimer after facing straight maidens ten times, she gets the big break in the weights and her early speed will make her dangerous.

1-5-7-9

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 4 Well Measured comes to town for Peter Miller and finds much softer as does the very fast No. 5 Oh Daddy Oh, they are the two. 4-5

Race 2

Steve Sherman who is in Louisville with his dad Art hoping that Chrome can get it done sends out first time starter No. 5 Nacho Preacher whose dam has dropped 4 winners from 4 starters including a stakes winner and Sherman hits at .35% with his first time straight maidens. No. 6 Touchdownwilson had some high hopes at Del Mar last year but failed, he is back and Baze gets on for his buddy Jerry. 5-6

Double

1st 4-8

2nd 5-6

Race 3

No. 2 Argyle Cut just missed going this mile turf distance last time out and now gets Baze riding for Bill Morey. No. 3 Terrys Tom Cat ran right behind Argyle Cut last time out as did No. 4 Charlie Thomas. It is very interesting that Baze rode No. 6 Maximim Maximum last time out for Hollendorfer and opted for Argyle Cut and Dennis Carr who was on cut moves to Maximum. 2**with 3-4-6

Race 4

Pablo Flores gets a rare ride for Hollendorfer on No. 2 Panda Power who looks best off her last but why did Russell get off? No. 1 Cara Has It gets a little drop in class and looks to be the main danger. 1-2

Race 5

No. 4 Tonzatrouble is in good form and moves back to the level of his last win. With little early speed in here No. 2 My Boy Butch may find the front end and get brave. 2-4

Race 6

No. 1 This Souls for ran good in his first try going long on the grass, he gets the rail today and should get it done. No. 3 Mr. Cactus gets his second try on this course after shipping in, we look for a much better effort today. 1-3

Race 7

No. 7 Party With Artie just missed at this $4k level in his last start, he will be making a late run once again. No. 10 Lookout Scout exits the same race, he is the speed and will try and hold Artie off late. No. 12 Captain Rodney also has early speed and is perfectly spotted off the maiden brearker. 7-10-12

Race 8

No. 4 Salah Champ is in top form and now gets Baze on to get the job done. No. 6 What Goes Around won in his first turf try going this 1-1/16 distance, he will get a perfect stalking trip. No. 12 Being There is on a nice win every other race pattern and this is his win race. 4-6-12

Race 9

No. 1 Toosmartbyhalf just did miss when dropped to this $8k maiden claiming level last time out, bet him to cash. 1

Pick four

6th 1-3

7th 7-10-12

8th 4-6-12

9th 1

KENTUCKY DERBY

With the scratch of No. 11 Hoppertunity who was the second choice at 6-1 this race becomes very wide open if No. 5 California Chrome can’t get it done, he will most likely be over bet now and we need to find some betting value. No. 4 Danza who ran huge in the Arkansas Derby will now become the second choice and he could be this good if is last was no fluke, we think it was not and he will be our key horse along with No. 13 Chitu who is 20-1 on the morning line, we believe he will fall into a perfect stalking trip and be in the cat bird seat down the lane, he has a very good work over the track. If No. 12 Dance With Fate can handle the Churchill dirt he will be a late player turning for home, if he can get within striking distance he will have a shot. No. 18 Candy Boy will need to move forward off of his Santa Anita Derby but he does have Gary Stevens.
