After back-to-back races on the grass No. 1 Hurry Up Henry got on the dirt and won at this exact 6-1/2 furlong distance. Don’t think he needs the front end in this speed field, he will need to sit and make on run turning for home. No. 2 Wildcat Sailor is a perfect 2-for-2 on dirt and is the best closer. 1-2
No. 1 Kyankes is a very interesting runner here off the layoff as she was well bet in her one start here last May but had a ton of trouble and never got into the race, she gets Bejarano today. No. 2 Valentine’s Reward is out of the dam Are You Kidding who has dropped 7 winners from 7 starters including 2 stakes winners. In this $30k maiden claimer for 3yo fillies No. 6 Empress Wildcat ran a good one when taking action in her one start at Los Al in a $50k maiden claimer. She is spotted for the win and we will take our shot and single in the players pick five. 6
They go a flat mile on the grass in this allowance race. No. 5 Demonica is a perfect 2-for-2 on the grass and will try and take them wire-to-wire once again but will need to deal with No. 6 Tacit Approval who also has big early speed and the Aqueduct shipper No. 7 Keri Belle. Things will set up for a closer and the ones we like are No. 10 Fresh Feline who broke her maiden at Saratoga last year at this mile turf distance, No. 1 Kadesha who broke her maiden here last May at this distance and No. 3 Fable a flat out deep closer. 1-3-10
In the last leg of the players pick five we get $8k claimers going 6 furlongs. No. 4 Bob Consultation drops in class and gets the very capable Flavien Prat in the irons. No. 6 Anillo drops of the win but this trainer hits at .50% dropping off the win and he is the speed. No. 10 Nextdoorneighbor is an 8yo gelding who has found a home at this level. 4-6-10
The road to the Kentucky Derby starts here as there will be 10 Derby points on the line for the winner in the GRADE III $100k Sham Stakes. No. 3 Rockinatten finds his way here from Gulfstream and lands in the ice cold barn of Doug O’Neill, this one looks very sneaky. No. 7 Calculator has finished second in back-to-back Grade I stakes, his last was here in the Grade I Frontrunner against American Pharaoh, he will be a short price. 3-7
3yo maidens go down the hill, No. 3 Battle of Evermore finished second going down the hill one race back but has burned some serious cash in his last three starts. No. 8 Ultra Sharp gets his third start and first on the grass, interesting that Gary Stevens gets the call, we will be using. Trainer Mark Casse who has been sending out live runners brings in No. 9 Conquest Harlanday from Churchill Downs, he has a fast last work and may take to this downhill turf course. 3-8-9
THE $200K GRADE II SAN PASQUELL
No. 2 Hoppertunity looks to place himself as one of the top older runners this year, he comes off a huge win in the Grade I Clark and that last work says he is on go. No. 6 Bronzo ran 4th in the BC Dirt Mile on this course, he is a runner. 2-6
The ends with $25k claimers going down the hill, No. 8 Snowday gets a good post for this and gets blinkers on and a break in the weights with Van Dyke getting the call. No. 10 Meydan Magic gets a turnback in distance and will be making a big late run at the tiring speed. 8-10
No. 2 Tiz Point likes this tack and will just sit off the hot pace and pounce down the lane, we will single.
No. 3 Stormin Wild and No. 6 Awesome Leap are the only ones in here that have won two races.
No. 2 Fast and Foxy is the lone speed. No. 5 Look Quickly will sit chilly right off her and try and gun her down late. 2-5
No. 3 Papa’s Trashed gets his first start off the claim, he will find a fast pace but will need to sit and wait. No. 5 The Bounty Man will be the one they will all need to fear late. 3-5
No. 2 Awesome Lookn is 4-of-8 here at the Gate and is on a win every other race pattern and this is her win race. No. 3 Up the Alley gets her first try on this circuit and Baze will ride for John Martin. 2-3
No. 2 Betting McCann Can has hit the board in all three of his starts here with a win and two seconds. No. 4 Thunder Rode will try and run him down. 2-4
No. 4 New Nature gets her second start here after shipping in and she gets her second start for Martin who promptly puts Russell on board. 4
No. 2 Candy’s Gone has run great in both of his races and will try and turn the tables on No. 6 Califo Cat who beat him by a dwindling 3/4 of a length last time out, today Candy gets the bug boy Carson Sullivan. No. 4 Elmonte Cristo also exits the same race and he is the speed in this his second off the layoff.
No. 3 The Gray Hound looked good winning at this mile distance here last out, he looks like a repeater.
