Race 1

As always at Del Mar they open going long as the horses start in front of the stands and the place goes nuts when they pop the gate. You gotta be there! We start this super tough card with $12,500 claimers going a flat mile and remember to tread lightly as none of these have ever run on this new dirt course. No. 3 Broadway Nika gets his first start off the A C Avila claim and he puts his go to rider up in Tiago Pereira and he put one of his 7 furlong works into this gelding, he is live at a price. No. 9 Dress Code will get the perfect trip behind the speed and he keeps winning at nine. 3-9

Race 2

Droppers galore in this $16k claimer for fillies and mares. We will opt for No. 2 No Tricks for Jack who comes off a big win at Santa Anita with Iggy riding for Peter Miller. No. 3 Peppy Bolly gets back to the level of his last win. 2-3

Race 3

$20k maidens go 7 furlongs. No. 8 Stellar Act has been well backed in all of his races with no luck, he will try conventional dirt for the first time. No. 11 Pippappy gets his second start and comes off a good second at this distance in his first start. No. 12 Restrike showed some early speed in his last going down the hill and now drops in class. 8-11-12

Race 4

No. 3 Cyrus Alexander has always been highly regarded by Hollendorfer but just hasn’t lived up to his hype, he will try him on the grass for the first time. No. 5 Toowindytohaulrox exits our HTW list in top form. No. 9 Montego Bay won here on this grass course last year. 3-5-9

Race 5

Maiden 2yo fillies go five furlongs and this is one tough way to end the pick five. No. 1 Fantasy of Luck is a Baffert first timer and he puts his go to jock Martin Garcia in the irons. No. 5 Late ‘n Left ran a nice second in her one race. No. 6 Miles Sister finished right behind Late ‘n Left in that race when closing fast. No. 9 Plane Lucky is a first time starter for Peter Miller out of the dam Jetinwith Kennedy who has dropped 9 winners from 10 starters including 4 stakes winners. 1-5-6-9

Race 6

No. 5 Magna Warrior gets off the grass and back to the dirt and the last time he won was on the dirt when Bejarano was on him, he gets back on today. 5

Win and place 5

Race 7

No. 3 Rob’s Golden Touch has really put his game together since being sent long, he gets a mile today and looks set for another big effort. No. 8 Fight Thru has also gotten real good and will be on or near the early pace. 3-8

Race 8

As usual we get the $100k Oceanside on opening day with 3yo going a mile on the grass, we will go with the two money jocks in here. Gary Stevens on No. 10 Papacoolpapacool who has won 4 of his 8 turf starts and Mike Smith making a rare ride for Jeff Mullins on No. 11 Soul Driver who comes off a very easy win in the $75k Singletary. 10-11

Race 9

In the late pick four we will need to go five deep using No. 2 Never Ends with James Graham getting the mount for Hollendorfer, look for Jimmy Graham to giving this one his best effort as he tries to get in the door here with some top trainers. No. 3 Seaward Cottage is a first time starter for Hess and he puts last race Kent D in the irons. No. 4 Send Me a Sign is a Ron Ellis first time starter and Mike Smith sticks around for the ride. No. 7 Illuminant gets her second start off the layoff and this trainer hits at .40% second off the layoff, she just missed going down the hill in her last start. Last but not least we will use No. 8 Lady Vogue a first time starter for Mike Puype, she is out of the dam Rehocracy who has dropped 4 winners from 4 starters including a stakes winner. David Flores who is still trying to get back into the swing of things gets the ride, he at one time was a big gun down here. 2-3-4-7-8

Race 10

No.12 Unusually Green has a bad post but fits and will be flying late. No.1 It Is Living Water can sit  off the pace and has won two of three since changing barns. No.11 Synnin likes this course. No.5 Durango Flyer is the price play.
