DEL MAR

Race 1

This super tough Saturday starts with 2yo maidens going 5-1/2 furlongs. No. 4 Navy Hymn will be the big favorite as O’Neill gives him another drop in class. He has been well bet in both of his races and will be on or near the front end. Trainer Scott Rollins can pop with a first time starter and he sends out No. 5 Knight of Drama. John Brockebank can also pop with a first time starter and he sends out No. 6 Purrin’ Proud off a real nice last work. Bob Baffert hits at 32% with his first time maiden claimers and he sends out No. 7 Midnight Edition a Midnight Lute colt for his buddy Mike Pegram. 4-5-6-7

Race 2

Fillies and mares go 5-1/2 furlongs for a price tag of $16k who have never won two races and most of these are proven losers. No. 4 Warren’s Dixi Bell gets a drop in class and Bejarano sticks and that is a good sign. No. 7 Fab Four Ever has just run six times hitting the board in three of the six so she could have some upside. 4-7

Race 3

2yo maidens go 6-1/2 furlongs. No. 1 Young Brian is a first time starter for trainer D’Amato who has been working well here. No. 3 Toews On Ice was sent off at .80 cents on the dollar here on July 18th. He showed good early speed and tired late; he will be the one to beat again at a short price. Gary Stevens gets on first time starter No. 7 Archaeo for trainer O’Neill and this colt by Arch looks like a runner who will be making a late run. 1-3-7

Race 4

$20k maiden fillies and mares travel 7 furlongs as the pick five gets a little tougher. No. 3 Rockin Rhythm ran a good one in her first start at Los Al and the Los Al runners have been doing just fine here. Richard Baltas brings back No. 4 Sayitright Kat off the layoff and drops her from a straight maiden to this $20k maiden claimer, she is live. No. 6 Classy Chick comes off a trouble trip last out at Los Al, he will be the price play. No. 12 Sidepocket Bet drops in her second start for D’Amato and this is a good move for him.

3-4-6-12

Race 5

THE $200K BEST PAL

No. 1 Found Money just won the $125k Santa Anita Juvi and now will be going for his third straight win. No. 2 Paynes Prairie is in from New York and moves from the barn of Asmussen to Mike Pender. He ran great at Belmont with a second in the Tremont. No. 4 Swipe finished right behind Paynes Prairie in the Tremont. 1-2-4

Race 6

No. 4 Forest Blue looks the one to beat off his nostril miss in the Oceanside on opening day going this mile turf distance. Tom Proctor brings in the sneaky looking No. 8 Chiropractor who exits our HTW list. He has been searching for a race for him and one of his go to riders gets the call. No. 9 The Gomper ran good in his first try on the grass and fits with these. This race is very wide open so don’t take a short price. 4-8-9

Win and place 8

Race 7

No. 5 Pearl de Vere comes off of back-to-back races going down the hill at Santa Anita just missing in both, she can handle the dirt. No. 9 Black Betsy gets just her third lifetime start, she has a big last work and looks ready for a top effort. 5-9

Race 8

THE GRADE II JOHN C MABEE GOING 1-1/8 ON THE GRASS

Wesley Ward brings in No. 2 Emotional Kitten for the Ramsey’s, she is a very hard hitting 5yo mare. No. 3 Fanticola is the speed and is at the top of her game. No. 6 Personal Diary won the Del Mar Oaks here last year and could be live again at a price. No. 7 Queen of The Sand was just a neck behind Fanticola last out in the Grade II Royal Heroine and she ran great on this course last year. No. 8 Elektrum finished close to Fanticola in the Grade I Gamely and is a player in here. 2-3-6-7-8

Race 9

No. 4 Secret Command won here on July 19th and now gets the move up in class first off the O’Neill claim. No. 5 Saint Prado has won 3 of his 5 dirt starts; he gets Gary Stevens today and is on a win every other race pattern and this is his win race. No. 7 Nextdoorneighbor is one hard hitting 8yo gelding who won here at 6/5 on July 6th. No. 8 Success Rate is a perfect fit at this level and gets Bejarano today.

4-5-7-8

Race 10

This tough day ends with $20k maiden fillies and mares going 7 furlongs. No. 2 Barbs Angel ran second here on July 24th and now drops to her lowest level. The very dangerous Andy Mathis sends out first time starter No. 9 Unwarranted who could beat this very soft group. This could be a pair of Angels as No. 12 Chicago Angel ran good here going a flat mile. 2-9-12
