We start off the huge opening day at Santa Anita with a $50k statebred maiden race for 2yo. Tommy Town and Steven Miyadi hook up with first time starter No. 5 Prairie Pizzazz and Miyadi has been a hot trainer the past 14 days with 5 wins 2 seconds and 2 thirds from 13 starters. He also sends out the stablemate of Pizzazz No. 6 Hopelessly in Love. 5-6

Race 2

Maiden 2yo fillies go 6-1/2 furlongs. No. 2 C. C.Zipp exits our HTW list as a $$$$$ play, this is her race to lose. Gary Stevens gets on the Mandella first time starter No. 6 Sudden Fame who has some good works and her dam d’Wildcat Speed has dropped two winner from her two starters. 2**-6

THE $70K UNZIPME STAKES

The go down the hill and No. 2 Curlin’s Fox has won two of her four tries down the hill. No. 8 Spirit of Xian gets a great post for this, she has been routing but her one run down the hill was a good one. 2-8

Race 4

Lots of early speed in this starter allowance race going 6-1/2 furlongs on the dirt. No. 6 Sunbeamsfromheaven won off the layoff last out for a tag of $40k, he was claimed by Mike Pender and will get a perfect trip. No. 8 Swiss Cheese ran a good second under these conditions last out and will also fall into a good stalking trip and he has the hot riding Martin Garcia in the irons. 6-8

THE GRADE I FRONT RUNNER STAKES

We start the road to the Kentucky Derby on the West Coast with this race at 1-1/16. No. 4 Nyquist will be given the big test here as he will try and run his unbeaten streak to four in a row but he has never been beyond 7 furlongs. No. 5 Hollywood Don has been on the turf in all three of his races but has proven that he can go long. He is by Tapit so the dirt will be no problem and that last 5 furlong work has him on go. Kent D and his Bro Keith hook up with No. 7 Swipe who has been chasing Nyquist, he will try and turn the tables today at this longer distance. Baffert sends out No. 8 Mt Veeder and we will find out how good this one is today. 4-5-7-8

Race 6

Down the hill they go, No. 4 Mal Verde gets his second start off the layoff and gets Tyler back and he owns a win going down the hill. No. 6 Hawkedon comes off a mile turf race at Del Mar and will love the turn back and going down the hill, he won his last two down the hill. No. 10 Labour will be flying late.

THE GRADE I ZENYATTA

No. 9 Beholder just beat the boys in the Pacific Classic and will be odds on with these if she goes. If not we will be using No. 8 Warren’s Veneda and No. 6 My Sweet Addiction. 9 (single) or 6-8

Race 8

THE GRADE I CHANDELIER 

The 2yo fillies take center stage here in this win and you in BC filly race going 1-1/16. No. 1 Pretty N Cool will try and turn the tables on No. 5 Songbird who beat her in the Grade I Del Mar Debutante. No. 7 Land Over Sea also exits the race and she will love the longer distance. 1-5-7

Race 9

THE GRADE I RODEO DRIVE

They go 1-1/4 on the grass in this win and in BC turf marathon. No. 2 Lady Pimpernel ran a good second here going 1-1/2 on the grass. Graham Motion brings in No. 3 Photo Call and she just may like it here. Clement brings in No. 8 Hard Not to Like who won the Grade I Gamely here last May. No. 11 Fanticola is the speed and will try and take them wire-to-wire. 2-3-8-11

Race 10

THE GRADE I AWESOME AGAIN

Baffert looks to have them circled here as he sends out the speedy No. 8 Bayern and the closer No. 5 Hoppertunity. We think it will be one of them. 5-8

Race 11

2yo maidens go a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Recalibrating gets the cozy rail and ran second with maidens at this distance one race back. No. 7 Strong Values exits that race and ran a solid 4th. 1-7

GOLDEN GATE

Race 1

No. 6 Recolte de Roi gets to a better level and finds little to beat. 6

Race 2

Morey claimed No. 4 Navigator’s Lion for $25k and now puts him in this $8k maiden race, all did not work out well but the fact the Baze gets on says he is a must use. No. 8 Corlin has been running ok in the dirt and now will try the synthetic surface. 4-8

Race 3

No. 3 Mucho Macho Dan owns a win here on this turf course and that last work says he is on go. No. 4 Dancer Humor has won two times on this course and comes off a very easy score. Hollendorfer and Baze hook up with No. 6 Honor Society who comes off a big maiden win and gets his first try on the grass.

Race 4

No. 3 Halekou Thunder was well bet in his one and only start and now gets his first off the Hess claim. No. 4 Desert Express starter his career last year at Santa Anita and Del Mar, he is spotted for action.

Race 5

No. 3 Double Switch has a good last work and gets back to going long. No. 4 Starzilla is always bet but has only won once, he will be over bet again. No. 7 Taxali Gate has been turfing and has big early speed, he can take them wire-to-wire. No. 8 I Rock the Party just missed when dropped to this level last time out.

Race 6

No. 3 Two Pump always give her best and is a must use in the exotics. No. 5 Light One has hit the board in all five of her starts here. 3-5

Race 7

A full field goes 5 furlongs on the grass. No. 6 No More Twinkies won like a good thing when sent this distance on the grass here last out and is the one to beat. No. 8 Precious Time came in from Del Mar and won for fun on the synthetic last out, she will take to the grass. No. 9 Papaclem’smidnight won in her only try on this five furlong turf course. 6-8-9

Maiden 2yo fillies go 6 furlongs, No. 2 Southern Treasure has a good last work for her debut. No. 11 Kiss N Scat was sent off at 5/2 in her first start at Los Al, she is by Scat Daddy and will like this synthetic surface. 2-11

No. 6 Jakob’s Magic is a 5 time winner here and 3 at this mile distance, we will single. 6
