Saber’s Santa Anita analysis for Saturday

Race 1 

Allowance fillies and mares travel 1 1/8 miles on the grass. No. 4 Avenue de France has been getting close and just may have found a winning spot. No. 7 Big Blue Nation exits the same last race as Avenue de France. No. 10 Hermaphrodite gets jockey Joel Rosario in the irons for her second stateside start. No. 11 Shanghai Truffles is in top form and a two-time winner on this grass course. 10-11-4-7 

Race 2 

Maiden 2-year-olds go 7 furlongs. Jockey J R Velasquez is in town for all the big races today and he rides No. 1 Barraza for trainer Bob Baffert. No. 2 Affable was a good second first out when beating the afore mentioned Barraza. No. 4 Sir Flatter is a first-time starter out of the dam Fergie’s Folly who has dropped five winners from five starters. No. 6 Wipe the Slate was second first out and now the blinkers go on. 2-1-4-6 

Race 3 

$16K claimers travel a flat mile. No. 1 Defense Wins will appreciate the drop in class and move to the dirt. No. 2 Hapi Hapi broke his maiden here at Santa Anita at this mile distance. No. 8 Zorich gets jockey Flavien Prat riding on the big class drop. 1-2-8 

Race 4 

The $200K Grade 2 Mathis Brothers Mile Turf for 3-year-olds. No. 5 Smooth Like Straight is one tough race horse. He just missed in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby and is a two-time winner here. No. 6 Field Pass ships in for trainer Mike Maker and is a six-time winner. 5**-6 

Race 5 

California-bred $50K maiden 2-year-old fillies go 6 1/2 furlongs. This is a very tough way to end this very tough pick five. No. 1 Big Chick faced open company routing in his last two starts. The bug girl Jessica Pyfer comes off a big meet at Los Alamitos TB and gets on first time starter No. 4 Esja. No. 5 Half Hoping has a good work pattern for her debut race.  No. 11 Warren’s Memorable had a good race here against open company in October. 11-1-4-5 

Race 6 

Allowance runners go 6 1/2 furlongs on the grass. No. 6 Quick Finish did just that in his last start on the five-furlong grass course at Del Mar as he came home fast to miss by a dwindling neck and now J R Velasquez is on board. Jockey Joel Rosario rides No. 8 Preaching Trainer who exits the same last race as Quick Finish. No. 9 One Flew South also exits the race. No. 11 Anaconda draws a great post for this. 6-8-9-11 

Race 7 

The $200K Grade 2 San Antonio traveling 1 1/16 miles. No. 4 Sharp Samurai had a big time last work for this race and will get a good pace setup. No. 5 Combatant last win came here in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap. No. 8 Mucho Gusto gets J R Velasquez in the irons for trainer Bob Baffert. 4-5-8 

Race 8 

The $300K Grade 1 La Brea at 7 furlongs for 3-year-old fillies. Trainer Bob Baffert sends out four runners in this loaded field and we will look to beat them. Trainer Steve Asmussen brings in No. 5 Finite who will get a fast pace up front to setup her late run. Trainer Chad Brown sends out No. 8 Motivated Seller with jockey Umberto Rispoli in the irons. 5***-8 

Race 9 

The $300K Grade 1 American Oaks for 3-year-old fillies traveling 1 1/4 miles on the grass. No. 1 Red Lark has really upped her game and this distance will be right up her alley. No. 8 Duopoly looks the controlling speed and if left alone on the front end she could be gone. No. 9 Sharing looks the filly to beat as she won the BC Juvenile on this grass course. 9**-8-1 

Race 10 

The $300K Grade 1 Malibu for 3-year-olds going seven furlongs. No. 4 Charlatan was last seen winning the Arkansas Derby but later was disqualified for a drug positive. No. 6 Independence Hall has been working lights out for this. No. 3 Nashville is one very fast 3-year-old. 3-5-6 

Race 11 

The $75K Shamrock for 3-year-old fillies traveling a flat mile on the grass. No. 2 Miss Extra will go good in this her second stateside start. No. 5 Moonhall Milly is on a win every other race pattern and this is her win race. No. 8 Counterparty Risk gets jockey Joel Rosario in the irons for trainer Chad Brown. No. 9 Warren’s Showtime has won 4 of her 5 starts on this grass course. 8-9-5-2
