This week I went to a restaurant that’s only been open a few months. It is called the Salud Mexican Bistro and Tequileria located at 8125 West Sahara Avenue.

I was invited with several other media guests to sample food items from the new brunch menu. As with any good Mexican restaurant, we started with a basket of chips and different sauces. The chips and salsa were on point and that salty goodness had me ready to have a drink.

The first drink I sampled was the house sangria, which was quite refreshing with just the right amount of fruit. The fruit didn’t overpower the wine yet gave it just enough of that fruity taste.

The first item off of the brunch menu that we sampled was the jalapeño bacon egg flautas served with Mexican potatoes and Charro beans. This was a nice starter dish and the jalapeños were not overpowering as I am not a big fan of too much spice. Next up was their version of Eggs Benedict. The secret was instead of ham that normally would be served as the meat theirs had braised short rib meat. It was excellent.

Next they brought out a Churro French toast and, yes, it tasted like eating a sweet churro.

One of the Bistro’s new items was the Bloody Campechana. This dish was served in a goblet and had shrimp, octopus, muscles, crab, avocado and a shot of Grey Goose vodka. This seafood dish was a knock off of a Bloody Mary with the tomato juice and vodka in the goblet. If you still have a little hangover from a hard partying night in Vegas this may be the perfect brunch item.

The next item and probably my favorite on the menu was the Chili Verde omelet. This omelet was fantastic and clearly my favorite item of everything I tasted that day. It was served with a side of Mexican potatoes and charro beans. For me, I would order this omelet and then share an order of the Churro French toast for a nice sweet side dish.

During our meal we got to sample another of their specialty cocktails called Aztec Sunset. It consisted of Monte Albin Mezcal, strawberries, lemon juice, agave nectar and was topped with Orange Crush. Yes, it was on the sweet side but don’t let it fool you, this drink packed some kick. I thought this was a perfect cocktail to have with brunch as it went down easy. We got to sample three of their signature cocktails and the Aztec Sunset was clearly my favorite.

After sampling the menu items we were treated to an after dinner cocktail called Smashing Pumpkin. Just in time for fall this pumpkin-based drink was more like drinking a dessert. It consisted of pumpkin purée, Semental cinnamon infused tequila and Horchata liqueur. The top of the drink is sprinkled with pumpkin pie spice while the martini glass is rimmed with cinnamon sugar and garnished with a cinnamon stick. A perfect companion to end a great meal.

The presentation of the food was great and the taste and quality was even better. I have moved Salud Mexican Bistro and Tequileria up on my list as one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Las Vegas. I give it a rating of 3.75 forks.
