Race 1

We begin this huge great day of racing at the “Great Race Place” with 2yo maiden’s going a mile on the grass and Florent Geroux is in town and he will get his feel of this turf course as he rides No. 1 Colonel Samsen who he rode to a good second last out at Kentucky Downs. We go from the Colonel to the Admiral as No. 5 Lord Admiral comes off a huge try first out of the box at Del Mar just missing at this mile turf distance. No. 7 Pacific Coast Hwy exits the same race as Lord Admiral and he was well bet that day but never got untracked, Gary Stevens sticks with him and he is a must use. 1-5-7

Race 2

More 2yo maidens, this time they go 6-1/2 furlongs on the dirt. No. 3 Eleutheros is a first timer for Hollendorfer who has a very strong six furlong work for his debut. No. 8 Hot Sean exits our HTW list as a $$$$$ play of his big effort first out at Del Mar when flying late to miss by a half length, he gets an extra furlong today and that makes him the one to beat. 8*****-3

Race 3

$20k maiden fillies and mares go 5-1/2 furlongs. No. 1 Really a Gem has had her chances but this will be her easiest as she drops to a new low, she just missed here for a $75k price tag back in June. No. 3 Redeeming Quality exits a key race and she was a good second in her first at this level. No. 10 Dixie Dame usually gets a piece of the pie and is a must use in this soft field. 1-3-10

Race 4

Starter allowance runners go six furlongs. Prat sticks with No. 2 Golden Atlantic who has big early speed, his trainer does great second off the claim. No. 7 Basinca exits the same race as Golden Atlantic, he was a nose behind him and Bejarano sticks. No. 8 Special Story also exits the race and he was a close 4th. 2-7-8

Race 5

2yo maidens go a flat mile on the grass. No. 1 Cedar Rapids gets his second start off a very good 4th at this turf distance at Del Mar despite trouble. No. 2 Farley and No. 4 Irish Goodbye where both above their heads last out as they exit the Del Mar Juvenile turf. No. 11 Lyrical Passage was sent off as the 5/2 favorite first out of the box and ran a solid 4th, he has speed and is a must use especially if the course is kind to front runners. 1-2-4-11

Race 6

2yo take center stage in this huge prep for the Breeders’ Cup and the road to the Kentucky Derby. No. 6 Klimt has really gotten better as the distances get longer and this should be perfect for him. He has a real good last work and his win in the Del Mar Futurity crushes these, he is a must single. 6***

Race 7

No. 1 California Chrome is looking for the second leg of his million dollar bonus, he won leg one the Pacific Classic at Del Mar and if he wins this and the BC Classic he gets a cool extra million. He is one classy horse with winnings over $13 million, bet him to cash. No. 2 Dortmund has tried several times to beat the Chrome but failed but the Dort is a perfect 5 for 5 here at Santa Anita. 1****-2

Race 8

Fillies and mares travel 1-1/4 on the green. No. 11 Decked Out just missed in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks to the very sharp Harmonize, she has a big last work and looks set for a big run. No. 13 Elektrum ran second in this race last year and has two good preps for this. No. 14 Sobradora Inc is a 2 for 2 at this distance.

Race 9

No. 2 Beholder who looks like the second coming of the great Zenyatta gets back with the girls after a good second behind California Chrome in the Pacific Classix. She will try and turn the tables on No. 5 Stellar Wind who beat her the last time they met. 2-5

Race 10

2yo fillies take to the track for this very important BC prep. American Pharoah’s little sis No. 5 American Cleopatra finished second in her first attempt in a Graded stakes last out. No. 3 Champagne Room finished a good 3rd right behind her with No. 2 Noted and Quoted 4th. No. 1 With Honors comes into this undefeated on the grass and could be tough if she can take to the dirt. 5**-3-2-1

Race 11

The huge day ends with the $70k UnzipMe down the hill. No. 1 Tourny was one very well bet runner first in the country for Sadler, she got nailed on the line and Sadler was beside himself after she was sent off at .60 cents on the dollar. No. 6 Nodiac comes off a big win last out and is proven on the course. Graham Motion sends out No. 7 Miss Katie Mae who is in from Belmont off a near miss at six furlongs on the grass. He also sends out No. 8 Lady Valeur on the turn back. No. 10 Swift Lady loves this course with two wins and a third from her three starts. 1-6-7-8-10***
