SANTA ANITA

Race 1

Wow the last day of 2016, where did the year go? We start today with fillies and mares going a mile on the grass. No. 2 Place des Vosges is the unknown runner in this race as she ships in from back East and lands in the barn of Richard Baltas who has pointed his stable to this meet and the comeback kid Corey Nakatani gets the call. No. 5 Warm Endowment is on a win every other race pattern and this is her win race. No. 7 Scarlet Honey is in from France and gets Rosario who has hit the board with all four of his runners on opening day winning two stakes races. 2-5-7

Race 2

$30k maiden 2yo fillies go six furlongs. No. 1 Good N Naughty bets a major rider upgrade to Bejarano and that says we must use. No. 4 Sly Humor drops from two straight maiden races and will show all of her speed today at this level. No. 9 Sassy Rose has finished second in both of her starts at this level, she exits the same last race as Good N Naughty. 1-2-9

Race 3

THE $100K GRADE III MIDNIGHT LUTE AT 6-1/2 FURLONGS ON THE DIRT

They could only come up with five runners for a $100k and that is sad. No. 4 Navy Hymn was scratched on Monday for this spot. No. 5 Jimmy Bouncer is in top form, he has won 6 of his 10 starts and is a perfect 2 for 2 at Santa Anita. 4-5

Race 4

THE $100K GRADE III ROBERT J. FRANKEL AT 1-1/8 ON THE GRASS

No. 1 Sweet Charity is in from France and lands in the barn of John Sadler, she won her last two starts and Mike Smith will ride. No. 4 Arles has been unlucky in her two starts in the states finishing second in both. Rosario rode her in both of those races and will be on her again today. No. 6 Ryans Charm exits the Grade I BC filly and mare turf, she was a better than looked 6th and has some steady works since. 1-4-6

Exacta box 1-4-6

Race 5

$12,500 filly and mare claimers go six furlongs. No. 1 Tangled Up in Ju gets Maldonado in the irons, the one time he rode this filly it was here and she won by 9 lengths. No. 7 Amazing Lady gets a big jock switch and is a perfect fit at this level and distance. 1-7

Race 6

2yo maidens going 1-1/16 and we must go four deep using No. 2 Surfside Sunset on the stretchout with Desormeaux riding. Kent who was on No. 3 Sonneteer for his last two starts for his brother Keith makes an interesting decision. Espinoza gets back on No. 3 Sonneteer, he rode him once getting beat by a nose. No. 7 Dre Dan is a $975k Baffert first time starter by Union Rags, this colt must look like a million. No. 10 Irap comes off a second place finish in the Grade I Los Al Futurity but take that with a grain of salt as there were only five runners in that race. 2-3-7-10

Race 7

In this 6-1/2 furlong dirt sprint No. 3 Indavidualist gets off the grass and gets Rosario, beat him to cash. No. 8 Bistraya has been up against it in his last two starts, he gets some class relief today as the Desormeaux brothers hook up again. 3-8

Race 8

THE $300K GRADE I AMERICAN OAKS AT 1-1/4 ON THE GRASS FOR 3YO FILLIES

No. 2 Stays in Vegas has won 2 of her 3 starts on this turf course, the distance is the main concern. No. 7 Decked Out has run this distance two times vs better. No. 13 Mokat exits some tough races and she should handle the distance. 2-7-13

Race 9

Statebred $50k maiden 2yo fillies go six furlongs. No. 4 Very Hot drops from straight maiden races for D’Amato, she could be live in this spot. No. 11 Fair Escape also drops and exits the same race and has a good last work. No. 12 Lucky Dolly just missed the one time she ran at this level and it was a trouble trip, she is the one to beat. 12***-4-11
