Race 1

$30k maiden 3yo fillies go 5-1/2 furlongs. The connections of No. 1 Princess Leia (nice hunch play) claimed her from Baffert for $30k, she was a $75k purchase so this could end up being an ok claim. Mentioning Baffert, he sends out No. 4 Barbara Jo who gets another drop in class. Baffert has been cold as ice going 0-11 with his first eleven runners as Dave Valento wrote about in GT this week, he states that Baffert started the 2015 Santa Anita meet going 0-19 and in 2014 0-15 and then won with 8 of his next 12 runners. No. 5 Jeanjeannie fits with these and gets her first start for David Jacobson. No. 9 Bella Be Quick was sent off at 6/5 in her first start and finished an even 4th, look for better today. 1-4-5-9

Race 2

$8k fillies and mares go six furlongs. The last time No. 1 Audra won was when Bejarano rode her, he gets back on today. No. 2 Holidayincambodia exits the same race, she was a close second. No. 3 Back Beauty is the speed on the huge drop in class. 1-2-3

Race 3

We hope the rain stays away so they can run this race down the hill. No. 2 Paquita Coqueta has done little wrong since coming to the states from Chili and she just missed down the hill by a neck in her one try. No. 4 Prize Exhibit is the class but will need the front end to fall apart to launch her late run. No. 5 Watch This Cat gets a big class hike but is a perfect 2 for 2 down the hill. 2**-4-5

Race 4

Maiden 3yo fillies go 5-1/2 furlongs. No. 4 Divine Spark has burned some serious cash in her last two starts losing at even money and at .90 cents on the dollar, we will give her one more shot. No. 6 Party Gal is a first time starter for D’Amato who has a huge last work here on the 3rd. 6****-4

Race 5

$40k maiden 3yo go seven furlongs. No. 1 Sharp Samurai drops from a very tough straight maiden race and comes back as a first time gelding. No. 3 Passed by Paul is wheeled back in just six days by O’Neill. No. 7 Kenzou’s Empire drops from two tough straight maiden races and also makes his first start as a gelding. 1-3-7

Race 6

$32k claimers go down the hill, we hope. No. 2 Cape Wolfe ran a better than looked 6th last out vs. much better, he gets the good turf jock Van Dyke today. No. 5 Zinvor hangs down the lane but fits in this spot. No. 8 Rangi looks the one to beat with Bejarano getting back on today, Rangi has won two times down the hill and gets his second start off the Peter Miller claim. 8**-2-5

Race 7

The Kentucky Derby preps begin in earnest. Mike Smith gets on the Baffert second time starter No. 1 American Anthem who won at 9/5 first out of the box, he will love this mile distance. No. 2 Term of Art ran in the BC Juvi and then won a Grade III at Del Mar and the runner he beat that day came back to score next out. No. 4 Colonel Samsen went to the Gate when exiting our HTW list and won the Gold Rush, he gets Prat today. No. 5 Gormly won the Grade I Frontrunner wire-to-wire but finds a lot of other early speed in here. 1-2-4-5

Race 8

$40k optional filly and mare claimers go 6-1/2 furlongs on the dirt, we like this jock Luis Contreras who gets on No. 1 Lady Tapit, look for her to be making a big late run. No. 2 Plane Lucky comes back to town and Bejarano gets back on, bet her to cash. No. 4 Skye Diamonds won here at this distance one race back. Prat gets back on No. 7 My Palmilla and the one time he rode her was here at this distance and she won by more than five lengths. No. 9 Calm the Sea won going away in her debut race despite hopping at the start. 1-2-4-7-9 in a wide open race.

Race 9

No. 2 Point Piper in his last two races finished second vs. much better and in his last he was second behind California Chrome. No. 3 Flamboyant won this race last year. No. 7 A Red Tie Day is on a win every other race pattern and this combo of Nakatani and Baltas has been a good one. A Red Tie Day is a four time winner on this course. No. 11 Ring Weekend looks the one to beat. 11**-2-7
