SANTA ANITA

Race 1

$50k maidens travel a mile on the grass. No. 6 Combat Zone continues his descent down the class ladder as he seeks his proper level. He has run second three times here on the grass vs better. No. 7 Aussie Fox has been stuck in second gear his last three races. He is once again a player but his win spirit may be lacking and the price will be cheap. No. 9 Arch Anthem drops in with maiden claimers for the first time and looks like a wake up spot. No. 10 Mo Bob will need to break quick and get up to the lead, if so he can win this. 6-7-9-10

Race 2

3yo $25k claimers go six furlongs. No. 4 Gleyber comes off a nice win here on December 29th and looks perfectly spotted. No. 6 Just Hit Play gets off the grass and won in his only dirt start here. 4-6

Race 3

The $100K California Going Down The Hill for 3YO

No. 1  Our Silver Oak ran big in his one turf start going a mile. Drayden Van Dyke got to know him last out when running second in the King Glorious at Los Al. No. 6 Tivan exits the same last race and just may take to this layout. 1-6

Race 4

The $150K California Cup Sprint at Six Furlons For 4YO And Up

No. 1 Edwards Going Left is a hard hitter winning 5 of his 10 starts here including this race last year. No.  5 Heck Yeah has won four of five starts, his only loss came vs open company in the one mile $200k Pasadena. 4-5

Race 5

$40k optional claimers fillies and mares 4yo and up go six furlongs. No. 1 Lady Ninja comes off a big win here and has won 3 of her 5 starts on this course. No. 5 Family Girl and No. 6 Spend Spend Spend look the main danger. 1**-5-6

Race 6

Optional $62.500 fillies and mares 4yo and up go a mile on the grass. No. 6 Siberian Iris exits a good second in the Grade 3 Red Carpet at Del Mar. She owns two wins on the grass and both came here at Santa Anita with her last win going a mile on the grass when Van Dyke rode. He is back on today and we think the price will be square and we will bet. 6**

WIN AND PLACE 6

Race 7

$25k runners go 5 ½ furlongs. No. 3 Exultation drops into a live spot but has a jock who is just not winning.  No. 2 Sunset Seven did not like the grass last out, he won here on the dirt way back. 3-2

Race 8

$16k fillies and mare 4yo and up go 6 ½ furlongs. No. 2 Smitten Kitten just won here for a $25k price tag, his last work was not good. No. 9 Christy Jackson likes this track, comes off a solid second and looks the one to beat in this lack luster field. 9**-2

WIN AND PLACE 9

Race 9

The $150K Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf Sprint Going Down The Hill

No. 5 Cordiality owns a win on this course and gets her first start off the Peter Miller claim, he is a master at getting his runners to win on this course. We love Van Dyke up and she is the one to beat. No. 8 Barbara Beatrice is a two time winner going down the hill, she owns a bullet work. 5***-8**-1

EXACTA BOX 1-5-8, WIN AND PLACE 5

Race 11

The $200K Unusual Heat Turf Classic at 1 1/8

No. 3 Rye had a prep for this at the Gate, he won this race last year. No. 5 Marckie’s Water can come up with some big efforts, he won the Snow Chief at this distance. No. 9 Ashleyluvssugar gets some class relief and back with cal breds. 3**-5-9
