SANTA ANITA

Race 1

$40k optional fillies and mares 4yo and up go down the hill. No. 5 Ficanas showed a liking to this tricky downhill turf course when blasting home to win with ease breaking her maiden last out after hopping at the break. Like Drayden Van Dyke getting on No. 9 Catoca who turns back in distance, this filly just may take to this course and the price will be juicy. No. 10 Merger Arbitrage ran a good second in her one try down the hill, she is back in town off a layoff and looks live. No. 12 Querelle is in from over the pond, she worked a bullet here on the 21st. 5-9-10-12

Race 2

$16k claimers travel seven furlongs. No. 6 Hey Sequoia takes a big class drop looking for a win and owns a nice last work. No. 9 Ferguson drops off the $35k Brian Koriner claim, all is not well but his speed will play well at this level and he does have a good last work. 6-9

Race 3

Optional $50k 3yo fillies go 6-1/2 furlongs. No. 4 Portal Creek has won two straight races, she moves up in class but is in top form. No. 6 True Validity is in tip top form and gets her first start off the big maiden win and the Philip D’Amato claim. She has never been off the board in her four starts here. No. 8 Tiz a Master was over her head last out when running in the Cal Cub Oaks on the grass, look for better in this spot. . 4-6-8

Race 4

Maiden 3yo fillies go six furlongs. No. 4 Miss My Rose is a first time starter out of the dam Ava G who has dropped 3 winners from 3 starters, she has been working like a runner. No. 5 Honeyfromthesouth has really burned some serious cash in her last two starts, losing at odds on. She will be odds on once again. No. 8 Miss Ava’s Union ran big in her one start last year in December, she comes back with some big time works. 8**-5*-4

Race 5

THE $400K GRADE I FRANK E. KILROE MILE ON THE GRASS

No. 4 Catapult comes back West after trying Grade I company at Gulfstream Park and Churchill Downs. He is working like he is ready to fire a big shot. No. 5 Next Shares exits the same last race at Gulfstream Park. The ultral consistent No. 6 River Boyne is once again the one to beat, as he has won 6 of his 7 starts here and exits a trouble last trip. 6-4-5

Race 6

THE 7 FURLONG $200K GRADE II SAN CARLOS

No. 4 St. Joe Bay lost this race by a head last year. No. 7 Solid Wager is back from New York, he is a seven furlong specialist winning 6 of 11. No. 1 Kanthaka also loves this distance winning 3 of 4 including the Grade III Laz B. 1**-4-7

Race 7

THE 1-1/4 TURF GRADE III SANTA ANA FOR FILLIES AND MARES 4YO AND UP

No. 6 Elysea’s World gets her second start off the layoff, she just missed here last year in the Bobby Frankel. She gets Van Dyke up for Richard Baltas and all systems look like a go! 6***

WIN AND PLACE 6

Race 8

Optional $62,500 runners travel a flat mile on the main. No. 3 Popular Kid is a five time winner here and is very consistent. No. 7 Air Strike comes off the layoff for D’Amato and gets some class relief with Geovanni Franco up. No. 8 Nero is the speed and exits the same last race as the Popular Kid, his last two works makes him the one to beat. 8**-3-7

Race 9

THE $400K GRADE I BEHOLDER MILE FOR FILLIES AND MARES 3YO AND UP

No. 2 Selcourt just loves this track if it hasn’t changes to much with all the work they have done on it, she has gone 4-3-1 in her eight starts here. Her only bad race came at Churchill Downs in the Breeders’ Cup sprint. She will need to be at her best to beat No. 5 Marley’s Freedom who’s last work was a sizzler.

2-5

Race 10

Maiden 3yo fillies go down the hill. No. 3 Harmless ran two times last year and both were sprinting on the grass. She should be much faster as a 3yo and she was meeting some nice runners in those races. No. 7 Hello Bubbles gets a turn back in distance and the one time she ran down the hill she just missed by a dwindling half a length. Always like to see Van Dyke riding for Tom Proctor who gave him his first shot to ride. He gets on No. 9 Confidently who is in from the Fairgrounds. Trainer John Sadler has been trying to figure out No. 1 Claudelle, he will now give her a go on the grass. 7-3-9-1
