It has been a while since we tried a new steakhouse. So I recently went to Scotch 80 Prime located at the Palms.

The Palms has made many changes over the last year as Station Casinos continues its rebranding of the Palms property as they try to transform the place back to a cool and hip place just off the Las Vegas Strip.

Scotch 80 Prime clearly is one of the new restaurants that fits that bill. It takes the classic steakhouse experience, adds a premium whiskey selection, including some hard-to-find ones, and makes it a happening destination to dine. All of the wait staff are dressed in black looking sexy but very elegant.

I started my meal with a French Onion soup, a staple of any fine steakhouse and it was spot on. The presentation is what you would expect in a fine dining establishment.

Next, it was time to order my steak which wasn’t an easy choice as not only do I have to decide on what cut of steak I want, I have to decide on what type of meat based on how it was raised.

Scotch 80 Prime offers different types of steaks — Prime, Prime Dry Aged, Pasture raised and Wagyu. I settled on a Prime Delmonico. My steak was cooked to perfection and the Delmonico was very flavorful and had excellent marbling, making it tender while giving the steak that extra rich taste.

The steak came with the Prime 80 Steak Sauce. First off, the steak didn’t need a steak sauce as no steak in a good steakhouse should. But if you like sauces with your steak this one was very tasty as I did try it. They have four other sauces you can order as well. Scotch 80 Prime offers a bunch of different side dishes with most priced at $12 and all big enough to share. One of my favorites is a simple one — their Old School Cream Corn.

Everything about my food and drink was tremendous so my review rating is on the food, but I also want to share the entire experience and also to let my readers know of a policy here. Stations casinos has their very popular Boarding Pass My Generation program on Wednesdays where guests 50 and over can use their points for 50 percent off dining from select restaurants and cafes each month.

However, the Palms has its own rewards program and even though it is a Station property, be aware your Boarding Pass will not get you the discount at restaurants not owned by Station.

The steaks at Scotch 80 Prime were fantastic, and the wait staff was very helpful and attentive. I give Scotch 80 Prime a rating of 3.75 Forks.
