Behind Georgia are two of the most familiar names in the sport, Alabama (+300, DraftKings) and LSU (+450, Caesars Sportsbook). Those teams just so happen to be the last two National Champions before Georgia’s back-to-back titles. While there are other talented teams in the SEC such as Tennessee (+1400, BetMGM), this conference is very top-heavy, with Georgia and Alabama as the top two teams in SEC Championship odds.

Betting Favorites To Win The SEC

Although Georgia is the back-to-back National Champs, they only have one SEC championship in that period, losing the SEC Championship game to Alabama in 2021. However, they got revenge over the Crimson Tide in the National Championship game and have not looked back since.

While Georgia will need to replace some contributors at crucial positions, especially on defense, this is one of the most talented rosters in the country. There is a reason they are favored to win the SEC and National Championship again this season.

Meanwhile, Alabama again comes into the college football season as one of the top-rated teams. However, for the first time in the Nick Saban era, there is some concern about being the top team in the sport. They certainly will still be in the mix as their National Championship and SEC Championship odds indicate, but what was thought to be a prime Alabama team struggled in every big game last year, and there still is no word on who will be the quarterback.

Finally, LSU came from the clouds in Brian Kelly‘s first season to become a College Football Playoff contender. After a tough opening week loss to Florida State, the Tigers were all but written off for 2022. However, they picked up huge wins against Ole Miss, Alabama, and Arkansas and earned a spot in the SEC Championship game.

Georgia Bulldogs (-105, FanDuel)

There is no denying that the Georgia Bulldogs are officially the alpha of the sport, and they come into this season as favorites to win it all again. Both sides of the ball lost key players, and Georgia will be turning to a new quarterback, with Carson Beck leaving spring camp as the favorite to land the job.

The defense lost the most production, with first-round picks Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, along with three other draft picks, including Kelee Ringo. This is still a very talented defense, but losing seven first-round picks in the last two seasons should signal some sort of decline, even if it is only slight.

Georgia’s defense has been so good because of a perfect mix of experience and youth. This season, the same can be said with Mykel Williams, Jamon Dumas-Johnson, and Malaki Starks. Although there are a lot of new names on this defense, this still should be one of — if not — the top unit in the country.

Offensively, they have a tremendous offensive line and a deep skill room for Beck or Brock Vandagriff to play with. They brought over Missouri transfer receiver Dominic Lovett to pair with Ladd McConkey, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint, and one of the best pound-for-pound players in the country, Brock Bowers.

Alabama Crimson Tide (+300, DraftKings)

Alabama is still one of the top teams in the country, but there are a lot of questions surrounding the 2023 team. First of all, there is no word on who will be the quarterback, and the fact that they brought in Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner signals that they are still searching for their starter.

While that may just mean they are looking for a guy with experience in offensive coordinator Tommy Rees’ system, Buchner was not overly impressive last season, and the fact that Jalen Milroe or Ty Simpson has not taken complete control of the job is concerning.

Luckily, whoever is the starter will have a deep skill room and one of the best offensive lines in the country. Defensively, they brought in Georgia transfer Trezmen Marshall and Lousianna safety Trey Amos to fill some gaps. They also will have one of the most talented true-freshman to come to Alabama in the defensive backfield, Caleb Downs.

This is a young team on both sides of the ball, but they are still super talented and are rightfully priced right behind Georgia for odds of winning the SEC.

LSU Tigers (+450, Caesars Sportsbook)

LSU is one of the highest-trending teams in the country and is always one-to-two seasons away from building a National Championship contender. A good example of this is last season, when in Kelly’s first season, LSU brought in a bunch of transfers, including quarterback Jalen Daniels, who is back in Baton Rouge to lead a talented Tigers’ offense.

They are breaking in some youth on the offensive line, but they have a deep skill room, and a talented recruiting class adds some depth. The offense should be more explosive, especially with Daniels’ entering his second season in this system, but LSU will win games with its extremely talented defense.

The Tigers’ defense may rival Georgia’s in terms of talent, and they brought in a lot of depth in the transfer portal, especially in the backfield. LSU will also get an entire season from one of the best defensive line prospects in Maason Smith, who tore his ACL celebrating a stop during the first defensive drive of the season for LSU.

It remains to be seen if the offense will be explosive enough to keep up with Georgia and Alabama. But this team will be better than last season and is a true threat to win the SEC.

2023 SEC Championship Pick

Georgia Bulldogs

I usually do not like betting on teams that are breaking in a quarterback that has not taken a meaningful snap, but Georgia is just way too loaded to fail. We probably would think slightly differently if Alabama was not in an awkward spot, but it is clear that Georgia is the class of the SEC, and they should win another SEC Championship in 2023.

Even with a question at quarterback, the skill room is loaded, and they may have the best one-two receiving punch in McConkey and Bowers. They also have the best offensive line in the conference, and obviously, the defense is the heartbeat of this team and looks to be a nasty group again this season.

Unless the quarterback position becomes a major catastrophe, it is hard to imagine this team failing. Taking favorites on a college football future is not fun, but the SEC Championship odds are correctly priced, and the Georgia Bulldogs should win their second-straight SEC Championship.
