One of the great things about moving to a different part of town is getting to try all the new places you didn’t know about. One of those places, I recently discovered, is Siena Italian Authentic Trattoria, 9500 W. Sahara Avenue in Summerlin.

Recently the wife and I went to dinner here as I was in the mood for some good Italian food and wanted to check out someplace new. The set up at Siena is unique as it is divided into three areas. As you enter you have the bar to your left, the main dining room in the middle and to the right is an attached deli. More about the deli in a moment.

From the minute you walk in you are hit with great smells coming from the kitchen. We sat down and began to look over the menu; there were so many great appetizer choices. If you go during Happy Hour (3-7 p.m.) many appetizers are 50% off in the bar area. That’s a great way to try them all.

One of my favorite appetizers is Prosciutto e Mozzarella, always a great start to any meal. Another favorite is Melanzane Parmigiana, which is classic Italian eggplant, Tomato, Mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Seriously, I could make a meal out of just ordering appetizers.

Lori went with one of her automatic dishes when we go out for Italian, Chicken Parm. The portion was huge and so good that after we got home from the movie she heated up her leftovers.

I planned on some kind of pasta but found myself intrigued by one of the fish dishes – Branzino, a Greek sea bass prepared whole with the head still on. Lori hates when I order it, as she doesn’t want my dinner staring at her, so you can have the waiter debone the fish and remove the head for you. This is a great fish and they served it with a lemon caper sauce on the side. Because I was craving pasta I was able to get a side of penne and meat sauce instead of potatoes. I loved their meat sauce and will be back for more.

We passed on dessert, and believe me that was hard to do. They have so many tempting choices but we were heading to a movie and I needed to save room for popcorn.

Before we left Siena I had to stroll to the deli side, As good as my dinner was this may have been the best part of the place. I now have an authentic Italian deli to go to for all the meats and favorites I grew up with.

If you are a hardcore Italian like me the deli is the equivalent of a kid in a candy store. They sell everything from pastas, sauces, desserts, Italian cookies and candies to cooking supplies. You name it, if it’s Italian they have it. Trust me, it’s worth the trip. They also have a hot deli case where you can get stuff to go.

The service was great, our waiter was very friendly and attentive to all our needs, and the food was excellent with large portions and reasonably priced. I give Siena Italian Authentic Trattoria a Rating of 3.75 Forks.
