As regular readers to my column know, two of my favorite things are playing poker and eating. Often, the two intertwine.

This past week, I was on the Las Vegas Strip playing a lot of poker as it was the first week of March Madness and all the poker rooms were packed. I was playing at Caesars Palace and decided to take a break and get something to eat.

I went to Smoked Burgers & BBQ located at 3500 S. Las Vegas Blvd. inside the Forum Shops at Caesars. I wound up making two different trips as I enjoyed the food so much.

Smoked Burgers & BBQ has indoor seating as well as a patio that gives a great view of the Strip. I decided to sit at the bar and watch some of the NCAA Tournament while I ate.

I had the chopped beef brisket sandwich with a side of baked beans. The brisket just melted in your mouth and the BBQ sauce complimented the meat rather than dominate it. Too often BBQ places overdo it with the BBQ sauce.

The baked beans were very tasty with just a little kick to them.

A couple of days later, I was back at Caesars playing again. And after putting in a nice session of poker, I wanted to grab a bite to eat before I headed home. So I found myself back at Smoked Burgers & BBQ and this time I was between a burger or the fried chicken sliders.

I had heard both were good, so I had to decide and since I was hungry but not starving, I went with the sliders as the waitress said the burgers were huge.

I’ll try a burger real soon. The fried chicken sliders were amazing as you got an order of three sliders with blueberry jam, Jalapeño pepper jack cheese on Hawaiian sweet rolls. The combination of sweet blueberries with the bite of Jalapeño surprisingly worked very well together.

These were so good that I was actually craving them the next day.

Smoked Burgers & BBQ have what they call World Famous Pig Candy as an appetizer. You get candied apple smoked bacon with a roll. Candied bacon — need I say more?

Save room for a dessert. I didn’t, but the salted caramel banana pudding looked good.

The prices are right in line with other places right on the Strip as you can expect to pay $15 to $20 for a burger. I give Smoked Burgers & BBQ 3.75 Forks.
