Stanley Cup Final Game 5 Betting Preview

It’s been all Vegas all series.

The Golden Knights cruised to a 2-0 series lead on the opening homestand, outsourcing the Panthers 12-4 through two games. The Panthers won a 3-2 overtime thriller in Game 3 in South Florida. They remained competitive in Game 4 but ultimately fell to Vegas, 3-2.

Vegas entered the NHL Playoffs with among the shortest odds to win the Stanley Cup. The Golden Knights took down the Winnipeg Jets 4-1 in the opening round and then the Edmonton Oilers in the second round, 4-2. The Golden Knights went on to defeat the Dallas Stars in the Western Conference Final, 4-2.

The Golden Knights’ roster is among the deepest in this year’s playoff field. These are Vegas’ top skaters entering Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final.

  • J. Marchessault — 24 Points (13 Goals and 11 Assists)
  • J. Eichel — 23 Points (6 Goals and 17 Assists)
  • M. Stone — 21 Points (8 Goals and 13 Assists)
  • C. Stephenson — 19 Points (10 Goals and 9 Assists)
  • I. Barbashev — 17 Points (6 Goals and 11 Assists)

Even if the Panthers fail to pick up a win and keep their season alive, Florida had an impressive run to the Stanley Cup Final. As the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference, they stunned the heavyweight Boston Bruins in the first round. After falling behind 3-1, Florida rallied to beat the No. 1 Bruins in seven games.

The Panthers beat their next two opponents, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricane, by a combined 8-1. These are the Cats’ top skaters of the postseason.

  • M. Tkachuk — 24 Points (11 Goals and 13 Assists)
  • C. Verhaeghe — 17 Points (7 Goals and 10 Assists)
  • A. Barkov — 16 Points (5 Goals and 11 Assists)
  • B. Montour — 12 Points (8 Goals and 4 Assists)
  • S. Reinhart — 11 Points (7 Goals and 4 Assists)

If the Panthers win tonight, Game 6 would be played Friday night in South Florida.

Stanley Cup Final Betting: Injury Notes

The Florida Panthers may have to try and keep their season alive without some of their top players.

Matthew Tkachuk, the Panthers’ star forward, is still reeling from a hit taken in Game 3 from Keegan Kolesar. His status for tonight’s game is uncertain, but even if the left-winger suits up, he likely won’t be performing at 100%. Fellow forward Anthony Duclair has also been limited with an unknown injury.

Vegas is certainly healthier on paper entering tonight’s game. They’ve dealt with several injuries at the goaltender position throughout the year. Starting goalie Robin Lehner has been out since shoulder surgery in September, and both Laurent Brossoit and Logan Thomas sustained injuries in the postseason.

Stanley Cup Prediction for Florida vs. Vegas Game 5

Will the Golden Knights win their first-ever Stanley Cup on Tuesday night, or will the Florida Panthers live to fight another day?

In our Stanley Cup prediction, we’re backing the Vegas Golden Knights to lift the Cup tonight. It’s hard to see the Florida Panthers remaining competitive without their best player in Tkachuk playing close to 100%. The experience and physicality he brings has helped lead the Panthers to the Stanley Cup, and there’s a stark contrast between when he’s on the ice and when he’s not.

Adin Hill has performed above expectations in net for the Golden Knights. Vegas has crashed the net effectively, eliminating quality opportunities for the Cats. The Golden Knights are outperforming the Panthers in nearly every metric, including save percentage, shooting percentage, expected goal differential, and high-danger scoring chances.

Teams with a 3-1 lead in Game 5 have won 97% of the time and by night’s end, expect the Golden Knights to hoist the Stanley Cup in front of their home crowd.
