How Stars, Golden Knights Advanced to Western Conference Finals

After finishing the regular season second in the Central Division with 108 points, the Stars opened the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a first-round series against the Minnesota Wild and edged out their divisional rival, 4-2. Dallas then went the distance against the upstart Seattle Kraken, winning the series in seven games.

A stout frontline made up of Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, and Joe Pavelski has helped carry the Stars to the Western Conference Finals. Here are their stats through two rounds of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

  • R. Hintz — 19 Points, 9 Goals, 10 Assists
  • J. Robertson — 12 Points, 2 Goals, 10 Assists
  • M. Domi — 11 Points, 3 Goals, 8 Assists
  • J. Pavelski — 10 Points, 8 Goals, 2 Assists
  • J. Benn — 10 Points, 2 Goals, 8 Assists

Jake Oettinger has put together several elite-level performances over the course of the postseason. The young goaltender has started all 13 contests, allowing just 2.75 goals per game and a .903 save percentage.

Vegas’ 51-22-9 record was good enough for first place in the Pacific Division. The Golden Knights then dropped the first game of the opening round against the Winnipeg Jets but then rattled off four-straight wins to advance behind a 4-1 series record. Vegas held off the Oilers in the second round, winning the series 4-2.

Jack Eichel leads the Vegas Golden Knights with 14 postseason points. The Knights have spread the puck around well, however, with five skaters netting at least five goals in the postseason.

  • J. Eichel — 14 Points, 6 Goals, 8 Assists
  • M. Stone — 12 Points, 5 Goals, 7 Assists
  • C. Stephenson — 10 Points, 6 Goals, 4 Assists
  • J. Marchessault — 10 Points, 5 Goals, 5 Assists
  • I. Barbashev — 9 Points, 5 Goals, 4 Assists

Laurent Brossoit was Vegas’ primary netminder before suffering a lower-body injury in the Edmonton series. In eight games, he’s gone 5-2 with a .894 save percentage. Adin Hill, in relief of the injured Brossoit, has played admirably. He has gone 3-1 with a .934 save percentage.

Stars vs. Golden Knights Series Prediction: Dallas Advances

It’s a tight one to call for the Western Conference Finals. Although Vegas is favored by bookmakers, we’re backing Dallas in our Stars vs. Golden Knights prediction.

The Stars’ roster is loaded with talent. Their front line has played like one of the best in the league when healthy. Don’t let the fact that the Stars needed all seven games to beat the Kraken be a deterrent — Seattle was a formidable opponent that had just knocked out the reigning champions in the first round. Seven games may be necessary for this series, too, as the Knights will go down fighting.

For an even better payout, consider putting a little on the Stars to win the series 4-3. DraftKings is offering that prop bet at +550, meaning a $100 bet would net a $550 profit, and a $20 bet would pay you $110 in winnings.

Stars vs. Golden Knights Pick: Dallas Series Winner (+115)
