Sue Ascanio, who spent a number of years in executive positions at several Las Vegas casinos owned by Station Casinos Inc., has joined the Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. family as vice president and general manager of Belterra Casino Resort & Spa in Florence, Indiana.

She moves into the position previously held by Kevin Kaufman, who recently was appointed as general manager of River Downs Racetrack in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Ascanio, 45, has been in the casino business all of her adult life.

From 1996 to 2008, she held executive positions at Palace Station Hotel/Casino and spent stints as general manager of Texas Station and Sunset Station.

During the past two years, Ascanio was with the Penn National Gaming Inc. group as assistant general manager of Hollywood Casino Lawrenceburg in southern Indiana.

She will report directly to Pinnacle CEO Anthony Sanfilippo, who praised Ascanio for her “leadership and local market expertise” that will be “instrumental in our ability to continue distinguishing Belterra’s high-quality gaming and resort options and to simultaneously further strengthen operating margins.”

Belterra Casino Resort and Spa has been operating since 2000 and features a 38,000 square-foot casino with 1,600 slot machines and 46 table games.
