Downtown Summerlin is hopping with new exciting places for food and drink. If you haven’t been to there yet you are missing out on some great places.
Just recently opened was Ribs & Burgers (1980 Festival Plaza Dr. Suite 200). I visited shortly after the opening and that first week went so well they were actually out of a couple items. One I was looking forward to trying was their Beef Back Slab of Ribs. Apparently so was everyone else as they sold out of their entire first shipment.
As the saying goes, when one door closes another opens. I have to be honest, I had no intentions of ordering the Slab of Lamb Ribs but because they were out of what I wanted I decided to give them a try. Boy, I’m glad I did as I’ve never had lamb ribs before
Rack of lamb, yes, but never lamb ribs. These ribs were amazing – full of flavor and a little messy but so worth it. They were cooked to perfection – slow and marinated for eight hours then grilled to get that crunchy caramelized outer coating. They served them with fries and coleslaw.
My friend Marc and I decided to split the ribs and a burger. With all of the burger places around town that have opened up I’m just jaded. I guess I expect too much because I eat so many different good burgers that I have become spoiled.
As far as beverages go they have a decent selection with 12 beers on tap and another 12 choices in bottles. They even have wine on tap as they have 6 different offerings on tap and another 10 sold by the glass.
If you are in the mood for a milk shake, check out their adult varieties available in non-alcoholic versions for the kids as well.
Dessert was a pass because we were planning on walking a couple doors down to Messina Gelato, owned by the same company as Ribs & Burgers. If you like gelato you will feel like you died and went to heaven when walking in. They have 40 fresh-made gelato temptations available everyday.
If you can’t decide, don’t worry. They will give you a taste of anything you want to try so you can choose the perfect one. I settled on Salted Caramel & White Chocolate, a gelato with white chocolate chips. This was an absolutely amazing flavor.
I came back a few days later with my wife Lori, who sampled a few flavors and ended up with the same choice on her own. My second favorite flavor there was the Hazelnut made with fresh roasted hazelnuts from Cortemilia, Italy.
Stopping at both places made for quite a unique dining experience and I don’t usually write about two in one article but since the same group owns them I decided to include them both. I give Ribs & Burgers 3.50 Forks and Messina Gelato 3.75.
