A New Day In Houston
In this matchup, Houston fans will enjoy the NFL debut of No. 2 overall pick CJ Stroud. The Texans have not selected a quarterback this high in the draft since David Carr in 2002, which was the first draft pick in the history of the Houston Texans.
After a tumultuous career at Ohio State, Stroud enters the league as one of the best young quarterbacks. While Houston still feels a few years away from contention, they also got better on the defensive side of the ball in the first round. They traded up to the No. 3 pick in the draft and selected Alabama edge-rusher Will Anderson Jr., giving Houston a face on offense and defense with back-to-back picks.
New head coach DeMeco Ryans has already named Stroud the starter for the first preseason game. While he has a tough challenge against a deep and talented Patriots defense, Houston added a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball, especially at receiver.
Stroud will have a skill room that includes newcomers such as Robert Woods and Dalton Schultz, as well as rookies Xavier Hutchinson, Tank Dell, and John Metchie, who will make his NFL debut after sitting out last season while going through treatments for Leukemia.
They also have a strong running back room with Dameon Pierce, who totaled 1,104 scrimmage yards and five total touchdowns in just 13 games. In the offseason, they also added Devin Singletary to this backfield, and with a solid offensive line, the Texans have all the tools to be a good and exciting offense.
Defensively, they have some work to do, but with a young nucleus that includes Anderson, Derek Stingley Jr., and Jalen Pitre, Houston is pretty close to being a contender in the AFC South.

Same Ol’ Patriots
The New England Patriots have been the class of the NFL for the last 20+ seasons. While their grip on that title has slipped drastically since Tom Brady left, they still have been competitive in every season, and defensively, they are as good as ever.
However, the offense is the side that will garner the most attention, especially the quarterback position. In the last two seasons, Mac Jones has led this unit, and while he has a positive win percentage as an NFL quarterback, he has put together two uninspiring seasons.
He completes over 65% of his passes but only passed for 6.8 yards per attempt last season and had only 13 touchdowns to 11 interceptions. It also does not help that he missed some time with injury last season, and Bill Belichick had a lot of faith in backup Bailey Zappe to lead this offense.
Jones will be the starter for New England in this game, and we should see a series or two from the first-team offense and defense. With a tremendous offensive line and improved skill room that includes JuJu Smith-Schuster, Mike Gesicki, and a few rookie receivers, we can expect the Patriots’ offense to be slightly more explosive this season.

Texans vs. Patriots Prediction
The preseason can always be challenging to bet on. First, we don’t know who will play and for how long. Secondly, the preseason is all about working on stuff and guys who probably have no business being on the field doing everything in their power to make the final 53-man roster.
Simply, it is way too unpredictable.
