This week I had the pleasure of having my mother-in-law in town visiting. Mom use to live in Las Vegas about a dozen years ago, so to say a lot has changed here would be an understatement.

We went to dinner in Downtown Summerlin where not that long ago all those shops and restaurants were just desert. We were in the mood for Italian food so we went to Trattoria Reggiano located at 2020 Park Center Drive.

If you want to do dinner and a movie you can’t possibly get any closer to the movie theatre as it’s right next-door. At Trattoria Reggiano you can sit inside or on the outdoor patio. As the weather cools off sitting outside is the way to go. Immediately after being seated our server brought a complimentary plate of peppers, olives and chunks of Parmesan cheese to the table.

Shortly after that they brought out a fresh basket of homemade garlic knots, which were very good and when you dip them in some olive oil they are even better.

All three of us had the Warm Spinach salad to start with, which was served on top of pieces of pita bread. This was a different presentation of a spinach salad and it was good getting bites of salad with pieces of the pita bread.

For our entrees Mom went with the Eggplant Parmigiana served with a side of spaghetti. The breading was light as to compliment the eggplant rather than overpower it. I really hate when all you taste is breading and not the eggplant. Trattoria Reggiano’s version was just right.

Lori and I had the Chicken Francese, which is a perfect summer dish. The chicken breast is sautéed in a lemon white wine sauce and a touch of butter with a side of spaghetti in the same sauce. This dish was really good.

Having the light sauce makes for a great light dish in the summer heat instead of a heavy meat sauce. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good hearty meat sauce and then I usually like a good hearty nap afterward. So if you are out for the evening this is a great choice and I will be ordering it again.

I didn’t order the meatballs on this visit but our waitress really raved about them. The homemade meatballs are made with ground filet and pork loin. They pour their classic San Marzano pomodoro sauce over the top. These will be on my list for the next trip. Another nice option if on a date night is to grab one of their Neapolitan Brick Oven Pizzas before or after a movie.

The dessert list was quite inviting with Ricotta Cheesecake, Tiramisu and House Specialty Cannoli just to name a few. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive to all our needs all night.

The food was very good and the portions were large. I give Trattoria Reggiano a rating of 3.75 Forks.
