They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day and living here in Las Vegas we have so many places that specialize in breakfast and brunch. I found a new place this week that just opened in my neighborhood. I love trying new places, especially smaller mom and pop places rather than the big corporate restaurants. This week the wife and I went to Mimosas Gourmet located at 3455 S. Durango Drive. It’s tucked into the back of the plaza behind the Dunkin Donuts, actually hidden as you drive by. Trust me when I tell you, I’m happy I found it and you will be too.

Given the name, Mimosas Gourmet, as you would expect they do offer mimosas on the menu. Hey, it’s Vegas, is there a better way to start a weekend breakfast than with a gourmet mimosas?

They have 12 different offerings on the menu from a Classic Mimosa to Mango, Peach, Pomegranate and Strawberry just to name a few. They are $8.50 a glass or, if you have some friends with you, they have a Super Mimosa served in a giant goblet for $34.99 for sharing. They also offer several specialty Bloody Mary’s if you prefer to kick start your morning that way.

On this visit I asked my server what she recommended on the menu being this was my first trip here. She quickly said if you are hungry try one of the skillet dishes. She said the corned beef skillet was her favorite.

If you like corned beef I highly recommend this dish as they make their own corned beef, and I can tell you it was delicious. The skillet comes with country potatoes, corned beef, red onions, jack cheese, parsley and creamy horseradish sauce, all topped with two eggs cooked any style. You also get a large homemade biscuit.

I’m a big eater and I couldn’t finish this skillet; trust me I wanted to because it was so good.

My wife Lori went a more traditional route as she ordered blueberry pancakes and was very happy with her choice. She went with the short stack, which is two very large pancakes. She was nice enough to let me give them a try and the pancakes were spot on; they were light and fluffy and loaded with blueberries.

As the menu says, their pancakes are a secret, one-of-a-kind, sweet cream recipe.

They offer several different specialty omelets and eggs benedict. Some interesting combinations I want to try are the Crab, Prawn and Avocado Benedict or the Shrimp and Crab Omelet.

Mimosas Gourmet also has several gourmet waffles as well as French Toast. They have a Banana Foster French Toast with grilled bananas, walnuts, and caramel sauce; topped with powdered sugar, whip cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Is it breakfast or dessert? Either way it looked yummy!

If you are not feeling like breakfast they have several specialty burgers on the menu along with a wide array of sandwich choices. The waitress highly recommended the Steak and Avocado Sandwich served on fresh ciabatta bread.

Hungry for a salad? They have their Mimosas House Salad that is topped with your choice of steak or salmon and served with a balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

The portions were huge at Mimosas Gourmet and all the food we had was great. The staff was very friendly and attentive to all our needs. I give Mimosas Gourmet a rating of 3.75 Forks.
