As most of you already know, I do not condone betting any serious money on NFL sides. However, this weekend, I feel that a teaser using the LA Rams and New Orleans Saints, does have some value.

The Rams are -7 and the Saints are -8; so using a 6-point teaser, you get to tease both teams down through the key number of 7, and then through 3. This brings them both to under the 3, which is the key to this play.

Sports books are aware of this type of play, and actually, they fear it so much that some have started charging -140 to win $100. When I first started playing professionally, there were places that charged $100 to win $100. So you should definitely shop around.

In addition, some of the sharper books have what they call “teaser protection”. Essentially, this means you can not even tease these teams to under 3 points.

I like the Rams’ side more then the Saints’ side here; so an option for you, is if the Rams (who play on Saturday) win, then you can come back with a smaller hedge bet on the Eagles, plus the points on Sunday, and then you have yourself a middle going.

I do not usually advise hedge betting, unless late information comes out, such as on an injury or suspension. However, in a case such as this, it would be fine because you would be getting the Saints -2 and the Eagles +8 or more. In that case, you would want this to land on or between the key numbers of 3 and 7.

I have recently been talking to some sports book managers around town, and have been advised, that they have been beaten up in teasers involving home team NFL favorites that have been lined -7.5-9.5. Also, historically home teams during this round of playoffs usually do very well.

Now, before we start passing around the collection plate for the sports books, let me tell you that the industry as a whole has not had a losing month in years. There are simply certain types of bets they really would rather not take.

In my opinion, one of the best spots for watching the games this weekend is at the Westgate. They have invested millions of dollars into a state-of-the-art sports bettors paradise. It is best to get there early and claim your chair, or better yet, if you have a group, you can reserve one of the private dens with luxury couches in the back. There is nothing like it!
