UFC 299 Main Event Odds: O’Malley vs. Vera 2

Though he lost by knockout in their first bout, Sean O’Malley is the current favorite at around .

Marlon Vera is the underdog at around .

UFC 299 Betting Preview: O’Malley vs. Vera 2

Sean O’Malley (17-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1 UFC) has had Marlon Vera (23-8-1 MMA, 15-7 UFC) in his sights since their first matchup.

The champion has been looking to get back his sole MMA loss, which took place back in Aug. 2020.

Since O’Malley and Vera first met, they have both been on successful paths.

O’Malley has won five fights, including against Aljamain Sterling and Petr Yan.

Vera won five and lost two. He has beaten the likes of Pedro Munhoz, Dominick Cruz, Rob Font, and Frankie Edgar.

When these two fighters meet again, expect them both to want to stay standing. Both of these guys live to trade blows and test their boxing. Expect a knockout or a war. Either way, the fans should be in for a treat to end the stacked UFC 299 card.

O’Malley has only continued to get better as his career has progressed. He bounced back from the Vera loss while still pretending it didn’t happen to this day. He has showcased his striking talents in each of his bouts since then.

After back-to-back controversial bouts with a no-contest against Munhoz and an arguable decision win against Yan, he got the title shot. In that fight against then-champion Sterling, O’Malley was very Conor McGregor-esque with the stepback cross to drop Sterling and finish the fight.

And he made it clear he wanted his first title defense to be against Vera. Does Vera deserve it? Probably not. He recently lost to Cory Sandhagen, who is almost due for a title shot of his own if he’s not already. But thanks to his connection to beating O’Malley previously and the rivalry the two have, here we are, UFC fans.

UFC 299 Betting Trends: O’Malley vs. Vera 2

  • Sean O’Malley is 6-1-1 in his last eight fights as the favorite

UFC 299 Best Bets

Though I’m more confident that the main event will go to a decision due to Vera’s durability, it’s hard to pass up betting on either fighter to score a knockout on Saturday night.

Exact Method of Victory: KO/TKO (+140 on DraftKings)

However, most predictors in the MMA world are going to tell you to take O’Malley via decision (+125 on FanDuel).
