Rozenstruik Hopes To Hold Almeida Back From Climbing Up the Rankings Ladder
It’s a tough task for anyone in the division right now, but Jairzinho Rozenstruik (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) is the next man to be given the assignment.
Rozenstruik is coming off a quick and dominant knockout victory over Chris Daukaus. Back in December, at UFC 282, Rozenstruik cleaned up the Octagon in just 23 seconds.
Prior to that, he suffered back-to-back losses against Alexander Volkov and Curtis Blaydes.
For Rozenstruik, it is probably a must-win scenario on Saturday to keep any momentum going. His entire UFC career has been fighting the best in the division.
His fourth fight in the organization saw him knocking out and splitting the lip of Alistair Overeem. The fight right after that saw him getting knocked out in 20 seconds by the best heavyweight in the world, Francis Ngannou.
So the road to now hasn’t been easy for Bigi Boy. But the pathway to the top is still open with a win over red-hot prospect Almeida.
A win on Saturday could set up a fight against Tai Tuivasa or Serghei Spivac and give him a chance of his own to climb the rankings again.
But don’t think this is an automatic win for Almeida. Rozenstruik has proven time and time again that he’s extremely dangerous in the first round. In his professional MMA career, Rozenstruik has had nine first-round knockouts, including four of his seven wins in the UFC.
Simply put, the man has bricks for hands and can put anyone to sleep in the way we’ve seen Ngannou and Derrick Lewis do time and time again.
Almeida Looks To Keep Climbing the Heavyweight Ladder
Jailton Almeida (18-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) has been turning heads in the heavyweight division.
The Dana White Contender Series alum has been showing his skills on the feet and on the ground and has proven highly capable in both areas, which is quite the feat for a heavyweight fighter.
All of those skills combined with that size make for a scary man in the Octagon.
The UFC has been seemingly strategic with building up Almeida’s resume, slowly giving him slightly greater challenge after challenge.
So far, he’s done away with Danilo Marques, Parker Porter, Anton Turkalj, and Shamil Abdurakhimov. So a win over Rozenstruik will be the first name on his UFC resume that most fans actually recognize.
However, he has won in impressive fashion in each of his bouts. Three of the four UFC wins have been first-round finishes (two submissions, one TKO). His last fight was a second-round submission victory so that makes three submissions in four fights and you just don’t see that amongst the big boys.
Again, Almeida’s grappling abilities are top tier in the division and it would be a smart strategy for him to shoot for the takedown extremely early to avoid being caught by Rozenstruik in Round 1.
A win for Almeida opens up endless possibilities in the division because any matchup would be brand new for the rising contender. A fight against Tuivasa or Volkov would also make sense for his next bout.
