UFC Vegas 84 Odds, Props & Predictions: Ankalaev vs Walker 2 Headline Apex Card

Happy New Year, UFC fans! The promotion is back with its first card of 2024.

On Saturday, Light Heavyweights Magomed Ankalaev and Johnny Walker will run it back after their last fight ended in a no-contest back at UFC 294.

Ankalaev hit Walker with an illegal knee, which rendered Walker unable to continue and the fight was over.

Now the two have a chance to put an end to this new rivalry while headlining their own Fight Night card.

UFC Vegas 84 Betting Preview: Ankalaev vs Walker 2

Magomed Ankalaev (17-1-1 MMA, 9-1-1 UFC) hasn’t actually lost a fight since his UFC debut back in March 2018 against Paul Craig.

The Sambo gold medalist’s UFC resume includes wins over Ion Cutelaba, Nikita Krylov, Thiago Santos, and Anthony Smith.

However, his most recent two fights have been a bit weird. There was the first Walker bout of course.

But then there was the Light Heavyweight title fight against Jan Blachowicz at UFC 282, which ended in a draw.

So for his sake and maybe his sanity, Ankalaev needs this win. And being the more-than-moderate favorite, he should potentially see a title fight again next.

But Johnny Walker (21-7-1 MMA, 7-4-1 UFC) has been on a little win streak of his own lately. Before getting illegally kneed in the head by Ankalaev, Walker scored wins over Smith, Craig, and Cutelaba. His last loss came against former champion Jamahal Hill in Feb. 2022.

Walker, a Dana White Contender Series alum, has experienced a few downs before his latest up in the UFC. He began his career at 3-0 in the UFC with wins over Khalil Rountree Jr., Justin Ledet, and Misha Cirkunov.

After that, he went 1-4 over his next five fights with his only win coming against Ryan Spann. Since then, he’s gone 3-0 again, steadily moving up the Light Heavyweight rankings.

And in today’s UFC, Walker may only be a win or two away from a title shot as well.

The matchup is an intriguing one to kick off the UFC’s 2024 and one that helps shake off some of the cobwebs from the seemingly cursed division.
