2023 US Open First-Round Leader Predictions

Bryson DeChambeau (+5000, DraftKings)

After joining LIV, Bryson DeChambeau was all but written off as one of the top golfers in the world. However, a strong performance at the PGA Championship, where he finished T4, gives bettors a positive outlook on DeChambeau’s odds of winning the US Open.

Most importantly about his PGA Championship performance, DeChambeau finished the first round atop the leaderboard, shooting a 66 at Oak Hill. He gained 7.5 shots off the tee and ranks second in Total Driving, just behind Scheffler. He also leads the field in distance and is ninth in accuracy, which will be critical for DeChambeau’s success during Round 1.

DeChambeau won the US Open in 2020 and was the only player to score under par during the whole tournament. With the 2023 US Open being in his home state of California, a state in which he has had a lot of success, look for DeChambeau to start hot, especially with LACC being a favorable course for him.

While there are always questions about his all-around game, he ranked 15th in shots gained on approach and second in greens during the PGA Championship. At Los Angeles Country Club, the greens are large, and the wide fairways give a guy like DeChambeau, who hits harder than most and has refined his game, an edge.

With 50-to-1 odds at DraftKings that DeChambeau will lead after the first round, this is well worth a play. You can also find DeChambeau’s odds on winning the US Open at +4500 at DraftKings, which could net you a nice chunk of change with only a few bucks down.

2023 US Open Round 1 Prop Bets

Picking the outright leader to win any tournament is challenging, let alone the end of Round 1 leader. Luckily, sportsbooks offer hundreds of US Open prop bets for the entire tournament and first round. We recommend you check out DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, and Caesars Sportsbook for the best 2023 US Open first-round props.

Each sportsbook has its unique props for the first round. Navigate to your sports betting platform of choice’s ‘Round Props’ tab to search for your favorite wagers. From “Player vs. Player odds” to a first-round score over/under, bettors have plenty of chances to get in on the action.

Here is our favorite 2023 US Open first-round prop bet.

Patrick Reed vs. Xander Schauffele Round 1 Leader: Reed (+125, DraftKings)

Heading into the 2023 US Open, Xander Schauffele has finished in the top seven in five of the last six US Open starts. A brutal Round 3 in the 2022 US Open saw him finish T14, but he still is one of the top golfers in the world, and he has an impressive resume at the US Open.

He is one of the best Par 4 golfers in the world, and with six of those holes at LACC, he can really shine at this tournament. However, you can get a reasonable price on Patrick Reed‘s odds of scoring lower than Schauffele in Round 1.

The LIV golfers are still undervalued by oddsmakers, especially at majors. Reed finished T4 at the Masters and T18 at the PGA Championship this year, and he has five top-20 finishes at the US Open.

Reed has also gotten off to hot starts at the US Open, leading after 36 holes at Winged Foot in 2020 and Chambers Bay in 2015, as well as a T5 finish at Shinnecock. Although Schauffele is as hot as anyone, Reed is getting tremendous value to get off to another hot start at the US Open.
