On Friday, the USA World Cup soccer team has a critical match with Slovenia. USA is actually favored by half a goal (-105) with a total of 2 (-130 over).
This match will be the USA’s most critical to make the next stage. All assumed that in order for the USA to make the next round, beating Slovenia and Algeria would be essential regardless of what happened in the England game.
But after the 1-1 draw with England last Saturday, coupled with Slovenia getting three points for its win over Algeria, the importance is stressed even more for the USA team.
It’s good news that the match is almost a week removed from the England game because of the let-down factor. How could the USA possibly match the intensity from that event with a short turnaround?
Slovenia is the third seeded team, but very dangerous. It was encouraging to see the USA get so many opportunities against an English team that is regarded as being pretty sound defensively and the opportunities should be there again this week.
Algeria should be a team that both England and the USA beat soundly, so Slovenia – who already has the only win of the group – is the key for both. Should the USA beat Slovenia, there will be added pressure on the English squad as they know the USA will get a fairly easy match for the third and final game of the group.
The England-Algeria match immediately follows the USA and their style of play will be greatly determined by what happens in the USA match. I’ll take the favorites and over in both matches.
Betting the over hasn’t been a good proposition thus far, but as teams scoreboard-watch with those that have an effect on their fate, styles and philosophies will change as some will be forced to throw the kitchen sink at their opponent, which leaves them vulnerable to the other team’s counter attack.
Look for many more “overs” in the second wave of matches than what we have seen through the first games.
USA 2, Slovenia 1
England 3, Algeria 0
