The USFL season rolls on with some interesting matchups on deck for Week 3. Fans can bet on a pair of games on Saturday (Bandits vs. Gamblers and Stallions vs. Breakers) and two more on Sunday (Maulers vs. Panthers and Generals vs. Stars). Let’s take a look at the odds for the games.

Tampa Bay is the favorite at sportsbooks against Houston, but only by a point. New Orleans is -3.5 in the battle of undefeated teams versus the Stallions. In the matchup between the league’s winless teams, the Panthers are 2.5-point favorites over the Maulers. In the Week 3 finale, the Stars are 1-point dogs against the Generals.

Bandits (1-1) vs. Gamblers (1-1)

After a promising performance in Week 1, the Bandits struggled on both sides of the ball last week against New Orleans. The defense couldn’t stop the Breakers, and the offense could not get on track. Jordan Ta’amu completed just 8 of 18 passes for 62 yards, while the defense allowed New Orleans quarterback Kyle Sloter to go 25-for-39 for 266 yards and two touchdowns.

Houston gave up close to 400 yards and 33 points last week against the Stallions. That sounds bad, but the Gamblers offense did not do the defense any favors; Clayton Thorson threw three interceptions, including one pick 6.

Stallions (2-0) vs. Breakers (2-0)

After getting off to a slow start in Week 1, the Stallions offense did not waste any time getting the ball moving against the Gamblers last week. Birmingham moved the ball well, generating 169 yards on the ground and another 229 yards in the air, and the yards were not wasted. The Stallions put up 33 points on the way to a five-point win.

But the Stallions will be in for a serious test against New Orleans this week. The Breakers defense has allowed just 20 points so far this season, while the offense has scored 57, second only to Birmingham’s 61.

Maulers (0-2) vs. Panthers (0-2)

This battle of the USFL’s only winless teams features two squads still searching for an identity. The Panthers offense has struggled overall in both games, except for the final few minutes of each. As for the Maulers, the defense generated three turnovers last week, but the offense turned them into only three points.

However, the Pittsburgh offense did generate 348 yards and 23 points against a solid Philadelphia team.

Generals (1-1) vs. Stars (1-1)

Two weeks into the season, the Generals are averaging more yards per game on the ground (168) than in the passing game (165.5). The two-QB system is unique at a professional level, but it seems to be working for them. While the defense has played well the last two weeks, it will face the league’s most productive quarterback this week.

Philadelphia’s Bryan Scott leads the league in passing yards (474) and completion percentage (70.6). He’s the only quarterback to throw for 200+ yards in both games.

USFL Championship Odds

As expected, the championship odds changed once games got underway. Michigan was the preseason favorite, but the Panthers’ odds are now tied with the Maulers as the longest on the board after two weeks. Birmingham’s odds were the second-longest in the preseason, but the 2-0 Stallions are the second favorite heading into Week 3 to win the USFL title.

A win over the Breakers this weekend would probably bump them up to the top spot next week.

When betting on the USFL, keep this in mind. With each passing week, teams are going to continue to develop. A team not playing too well, like the Panthers or Maulers, has plenty of time to get it together and go on a run.
