There will be several educational seminars presented at the 25th annual convention of the Casino Collectibles Association (CCA), being held at the South Point Casino June 22-24. One that we think will be very interesting will be the Museum of Gaming History (MoGH) in the Joshua Room at the South Point on Thursday, June 22 at 8 a.m. It will be presented by MoGH board members and will feature some of the museum’s exhibits and displays.
The museum is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization. Their mission, according to its board chairman Neal Silverman, is to “preserve collections, artifacts and archives for the purpose of educating the public through exhibitions, programs and information.”
And we think they are doing an excellent job. Their website (http://museumofgaminghistory.org) has links to over three dozen videos on gaming from speeches by the late Bob Maheu, who worked for the FBI and CIA and also was a close confidant of the eccentric Howard Hughes, to a tribute to the late Jackie Gaughan, one of Las Vegas’ early gaming pioneers and also one of the nicest casino owners this town has ever seen, to the History of Gambling in America and more.
If you click on ChipGuide you will have access to over 150,000 scans of casino collectibles and the News tab has a “This Week in Gaming History” section that provides a treasure trove of information and pictures.
MoGH also has a library with over 1,000 publications, an exhibit at the El Cortez Casino Hotel and numerous artifacts on loan to the Mob Museum, both located in downtown.
With all that information at their fingertips the seminar on June 22 is bound to be fascinating. We can’t wait.
AGA RAMPS UP
The American Gaming Association (AGA) is ramping up its efforts on its goal of legalizing sports betting outside of Nevada. Late last month the Board of Directors ratified a new set of policy principles outlining the industry’s approach to this goal, which includes the modernization of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA). They believe this would “increase fan engagement and entertainment, empower law enforcement and enhance the protections surrounding the integrity of all professional sporting events nationwide.”
“The stars are aligning to finally repeal this failing law (PASPA),” said Geoff Freeman, president and CEO of the AGA. “At a time when Washington remains deeply divided, sports betting has the support of Americans of all political stripes.
“Legal, regulated sports betting will enhance fan engagement and entertainment, empower law enforcement and strengthen the integrity of every game. Everyone wins,. Freeman added.
