It is good to start the season off with a winning week. Now we head into the NFL where we have two solid plays this week but before we get to the picks let’s take a look at some of the bigger moves last week in college football.

Tulane was at Wake Forest and the line was just sitting around 16.5. Then some late money came pouring in on Tulane and the line dropped to -14.5. The final was 7-3 Wake.

Western Kentucky was at home vs. Rice. This game opened with WK -16.5 and was bet up to -19.5. WKU wins 46-14.

The money poured in on Minnesota as they opened -10 and were bet up to -13.5. Gophers hold on 30-23. One for the books.

Georgia State, a team I liked, opened -2.5 and was bet up to -5. They lost outright 31-21.

On Saturday SMU opened as a -12 point favorite and the line dropped to -7. SMU gets the money 34-21.

There was a big move on Southern Miss as they opened as a 7 point dog and closed +3. USM scores the final 34 points and wins outright 44-35.

In a big game between Clemson and Auburn, Clemson was bet up from -7 to -9 and won by just 6 when Dabo Swinney did not go for the field goal late in the game. Nice win for the books but tough beat for this bettor.

LSU took plenty of money both on the -12 line and teasers. They lost outright and the boys down in the Big Easy are calling for the head of Miles. USC played Alabama a game that this bettor thought could be a good one, but the Tide rolled 52-6 win. A big win for the bettors, but not this one.

Last week: 4-2

Season: 4-2

On to this week.

College Football

Saturday, Sept. 10

UCF +35 at Michigan: The Knights from Orlando already have more wins this year than all of last year beating SC State last week 38-0 under a new program and new head coach Scott Frost. So who is Frost, well he has a big time resume as a QB for Nebraska and leading QB Marcus Mariota to some big games when he was the offensive coach for the Oregon Ducks. He will open things up and we look for them to stay in the game vs. Michigan in Ann Arbor. C. FLORIDA.

Akron +25 at Wisconsin: The Zips looking forward to this big pay day in Madison and want to prove they can play big time, Akron has gone 7-0 ATS as a road dog under Terry Bowden when getting +14 or more points and playing a team .500 or better and it is even better catching the Badgers off gut wrenching win vs. LSU last week. AKRON.

Wake Forest +7 at Duke: The question here is can the Demon Deacons score. They could only get a TD last week vs. Tulane, but this is a big revenge conference game as the Blue Devils beat them in Winston Salem last year by six points 27-21. We also note that Duke has gone 0-5 ATS as a home chalk in this range. WAKE FOREST.

Kentucky +16 at Florida: The Gators have gone 9-0 ATS as favorites of 20 or less points when playing a team under 500. Kentucky fits that trend after losing its opener last week to Southern Miss. The Gators also own one of the best defenses in the country and will shut down the Wildcat offense, Must lay the points in this game. FLORIDA.

Virginia Tech +10 vs. Tenn: Neutral site game at the famed NASCAR speedway in Bristol. Vols had their scare last week winning 20-13 in OT vs. a real tough App State team who should have won the game. VT with a new head coach will find it very tough going in this game. We will gladly lay the 10 points. TENNESSEE.

Utah State +16.5 at USC: Just don’t know what to think of the Trojans in a non-effort last week. Do they have internal problems or was Alabama that darn good. We will take our shot with the good dog here. The Aggies have gone 12-0 ATS as a road dog of 10 or more points and come off a confidence building 45-6 win over Weber State. UTAH ST.

Thursday, Sept. 8

Panthers -3 at Broncos: The dream game as the Black Cats get their revenge from last year’s Super Bowl loss vs. the Manningless Broncos. Cam Newton just can’t wait for this game. Lay the field goal, sit and enjoy unless you are a Bronco fan. PANTHERS.

Sunday, Sept. 11

Packers -4.5 at Jaguars: On this sublime day the only kneeling this bettor wants to see is Aaron Rodgers taking a knee with a 14 point lead to end the game. The Jags have gone 0-8 ATS as non-conference dogs +3 or higher. PACKERS.

Best Bet: Just want to give a high five to GT writer Dave Valento who has given out four best bets in his column with three winning and the other losing in a photo. Keep up the great work Mr. Phantom.

The Parlay Cards are out and we will be out picking some up every Thursday morning at the newly remodeled Palace Station. They did a great job and will definitely have the cash to pay off a 10-team parlay card that we’ll be playing.

You could be walking around lucky and not even know it.
