We plan to stand, except for a Playboy Bunny

There is just so much to write
about, but so little time and space with selections to be made and all that
stuff. I’ll try and make this short and sweet. Then, on to some picks for this

First, the big boys play for real
starting this Thursday with Saints at the Colts. There is still time to get into
some big money paying contest. We here at GT are in the Stations Last Man
Standing and their BIG challenge contest. You can still enter either contest at
any of your favorite Stations Sports Books.

One thing I like about the
Challenge is that Stations puts a few key college games in the mix which gives
you a little flavor to choose from. Other big contests are at the Hilton Super
Book with their Super Contest and Harrah’s Glory of the Gridiron. If you don’t
happen to have any big bucks, take a little drive north to Jerry’s Nugget and
for $5 l play their NFL pick’em all contest.

There is also still time to get
into the Palms 300k NFL contest. Perhaps, a Playboy Bunny will be at the Sports
Book counter. If not, just deal with Sam. And by all means don’t forget the
big Fantasy contest at the Hard Rock. If you’re adept at fantasy football,
take a shot at this contest. There won’t be a ton of contestants to fight

Also, the Rampart-Cannery will be
offering a Fantasy Football contest with all kinds of prize money. So if you
happen to live on that side of town, stop in, see Kevin at the Cannery and take
a shot at some of their money. There’s a lot to do this week, a ton of money
for grabs and gas is much cheaper. Take in a bunch of different spots. Sometimes
a little change can spark you up.

Sitting over at my cousin Lou’s
this past Saturday sweating in some games, we happened to see Boston’s rookie
pitcher Clay Buchholz in the process of pitching a no-no. We were all rooting
for this guy, who looked all of 16. Now you all know how I just love a good
conspiracy theory. We watched in amazement as the last batter, Nick Markakis,
seemed to make little or no attempt to get a hit. His only try was a

This past Sunday in baseball
there were four teams that were -200 and higher, the Diamond Backs -215, Yankees
-360, Indians -220 and Angels -230. They all lost straight up. A little $10
brought back over $200. In past years I would have gone 4-0 taking +1½ runs
plus money. With the cutback this year, I was only able to get the Devil Rays
+1½ +150. I did make the parlay.

Now on to some contest with that
lucky money. And, here comes the picks.

Friday, Sept. 7

Navy +13½ at Rutgers:
I just hate to go against a team that cost me big time the week before. Navy
sunk a big five team parlay for me. The Middies are 1-5 ATS vs Rutgers in their
last six meetings and the way they played in the second half against Temple last
week, the number should go to 1-6 ATS.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Nevada +7 at N’western: Nevada
could be a little beat up after getting hammered by 52-10 last week by Nebraska.
NW had a nice easy tune up against Northeastern, winning 27-0. This is also a
good revenge game for the Wildcats, having lost 31-21 last year at Nevada.

Buffalo +3 at Temple: I
may try to get this Game of the Year on PPV. Could be very exciting if half as
good as last year’s 9-6 cliffhanger won by Buffalo. This time it’s rare win
for the home side.

Alabama -4 at Vandy:
The Commodores always gives the Tide fits even though they never get a straight
up win. Vandy is 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings.

Utah St +24 at Wyoming:
The Pokes come off a big revenge win last week, beating Virginia 23-3. They
looked mighty good in the process, especially on the defensive end. Usually I
don’t like betting a team off such a big win, the Cowboys can shut out Utah
St. Also, Wyoming is super tough in Laramie, going 3-0 both SU and ATS against

Missouri -6 at Ole Miss: The
Rebels look like a good home dog especially since they have some revenge on
their minds after getting crushed last year in Missouri, 34-7. MISS.

Oregon +6 at Michigan: Michigan
may have been looking ahead last week. Losing to 1-AA powerhouse Appy State
34-32. This game with Oregon will mean the season and possibly the job of HC
Lloyd Carr. Michigan will also be seeking revenge from last year’s 31-27 loss
at Oregon.

N. Dame -16 at Penn St: The
not so Fighting Irish showed no heart in the second half last week at home
against Georgia Tech. The Gipper must have turned over in his grave and Ronald
Reagan may also have turned a little. It won’t get any easier for the Irish
this week traveling to Penn State and facing an angry Joe Pa bunch that they
crushed last year, 41-17. Big time revenge for the Lions, who come off a rousing
59-0 thrashing of Florida Int.

TCU +10 at Texas:
The Longhorns last week opened as a 37½ point favorite at home against Arkansas
State. The line was bet up to -41 in some spots and it was life and death to win
that game 21-13. Were they holding back for this game? I think the Frogs can
stay within 10 points if they play like last week’s 27-0 win against Baylor

Va Tech +13 at LSU: The
Tigers may have the nation’s best defense. There are few tougher places than
Baton Rouge on a Saturday night. Tiger Stadium will be crazy and the 90,000 will
be nuts. No mistakes for LSU in this important game. According to my Baton Rouge
source Syl Friedman, LSU will not let up once ahead. BEST BET: LSU.

Sunday, Sept. 9

Chiefs +3 at Texans (38):
KC stunk it up in preseason, while the Texans were great. TEXANS.

Steelers -4 at Browns (37): Defense
will be the name of the game in this one. The Pittsburgh “D” will make
the difference in trying to keep their 7-game winning streak alive. STEELERS,

Bears +6 at Chargers
San Diego just has way too much offense
for the Bears. Chargers gearing up to make a Super Bowl run.

Steubenville High continued its
historic winning streak, beating Akron Buchtel 20-6 last week. The Big Red will
be featured Sept. 16 on NBC during the Patriots-Chargers game. Tune in and see
what prep football is like in the Steubenville area. There will be another
segment Sept. 23 on the Bears-Cowboys 5:15 p.m. NBC game.
