Wednesday’s MLB Over/Under Bet: Kluber Hosts Rodon in Matinee

Chicago White Sox at Cleveland Indians Over/Under: 7
First pitch: 10:10 a.m. PT

Probable Pitchers: Carlos Rodon (0-1, 3.38 ERA) vs. Corey Kluber (0-1, 2.57 ERA)

When these two AL Central rivals clash in the finale of this mini two-game series, they’ll be doing so with arguably their best guns on the mound.

Of course, there is the former Cy Young winner Kluber, who got his 2019 out to a nice start with seven innings of two-run ball in Minnesota on opening day, albeit in defeat. Still, it looks like Kluber is in midseason form and a date with the White Sox could only serve to further enhance that.

Kluber is typically terrific against the Pale Hose but even more so a year ago. In fact, he really couldn’t have been more dominant, garnering a win in all four meetings while posting a 0.96 ERA, 0.71 WHIP and a whopping 39-4 K/BB ratio across 28 innings. He also held Chicago to a minuscule .163 batting average.

Look for similar results this afternoon. While Jose Abreu and Yonder Alonso have fared decently opposite Kluber, the rest of today’s starting lineup is a combined 15-for-107 (.140) for their careers versus Cleveland’s staff ace.

The other starter, Rodon, also enjoyed worthy success against today’s opponent last season. While he was winless in his four assignments facing the Tribe, the left-hander did amass a desirable 3.42 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and .196 batting average against.

Based on his first start, Rodon may be building off what he started a year ago when he returned from injury. There’s a good chance he can keep it up considering Cleveland’s downgraded lineup today, which has Jordan Luplow slotted in as the No. 3 hitter. The line has dropped to 6.5 in a few spots but I still recommend a bet on that number.
