The No. 14 Baylor Bears look to keep the momentum going as they welcome a tough West Virginia Mountaineers team in Monday night college basketball action. This is going to be an exciting game, and we are here to break down West Virginia vs. Baylor odds, betting trends, and a pick.

Baylor has won three straight and is now tied with Kansas for second in the Big 12 standings, one game behind Texas for the top spot in the conference. While West Virginia’s 4-8 conference record leaves them in a bad place as we gear up toward March, they have not been an easy team to beat. Over their last six games, they have four wins against Texas Tech, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Iowa State.

This will undoubtedly be a great game, as West Virginia will give this Baylor team all it can handle. Let’s break down this matchup and give the best West Virginia vs. Baylor betting pick.

  • The total has gone OVER in five of West Virginia’s last five games
  • West Virginia is 2-4 ATS in its last six games against Baylor

Baylor

  • The total has gone UNDER in five of Baylor’s last seven games
  • Baylor is 9-1 SU in its last 10 games

West Virginia (15-10, 12-13 ATS)

Although West Virginia is on a nice run of beating top-ranked teams, they are wildly inconsistent. Coming off huge wins against Oklahoma and Iowa State, things were looking good in Morgantown. However, they got smoked by Texas last time out, and we are not too far removed from West Virginia’s five-game losing streak, with one of those games coming against Baylor.

They only lost by five against the Bears earlier in the season, but since then, not only has West Virginia gotten better, but so has Baylor, and they have done so at an impressive level. The Bears are the No. 1 ranked offense, according to KenPom; they are putting up 78.4 points per game and are an impressive shooting team.

Luckily, West Virginia is a very athletic team, and although teams are shooting at a nice clip against them, they are ranked 40th in KenPom’s ADJ defensive efficiency metric, and they are ranked 21st in rebounds per game and 31st in defensive rebounds per game.

Offensively, the Mountaineers have four players that average double-digit points per game. Senior guard Erik Stevenson is due for a breakout game after back-to-back clunkers against Texas and Iowa State. Luckily, they have a stable of offensive weapons behind him to pick up the slack, and as of late, West Virginia is playing good ball on both sides of the court.

Baylor Bears (19-6, 13-11-1 ATS)

After struggling earlier in the season, Baylor has found its groove, and they have put themselves in a great position to win the Big 12 regular-season title. Over their last 10 games, Baylor is 9-1, with their lone loss coming by five to Texas, and during this streak, they have knocked off teams like Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and this West Virginia team.

Baylor’s offense has come alive, which is not a surprise when you have Keyonte George, LJ Cryer, and Adam Flagler on the court, but they have slowed things down on offense compared to trying to smother you with talent. They average 18.9 seconds per possession and still put up monster point totals. This is because they are a very efficient offense and have a lot of depth on their bench.

This does not mean that Baylor’s offense is unstoppable, as they have been slowed down at times this season, but the opposition will have to dig down deep to find that extra gear to stop this offense. Simply put, they can overwhelm you with talent, and they have shown that over the last month and a half.

West Virginia vs. Baylor Betting Pick

With two great offenses and the urgency to win ratcheting up, this has all the makings of a high-scoring game. In the previous meeting between these two teams, there were 25 points scored in the final two minutes of the game to cash the Over.

The Over has been profitable for both teams this season, especially for West Virginia. The Over is 17-8 for the Mountaineers this season, and six of their eight road games have gone Over the total. The Over has cashed in only 13 of Baylor’s 25 games, but in this series, the total has gone Over five straight times.

With both teams playing good ball as of late, this game could go very similar to its previous matchup, and if that is the case, the Over is worth a play here.
