As the 2023 WNBA season rolls on, the Las Vegas Aces and New York Liberty continue to lead the latest odds to win the WNBA championship. The reigning champion Aces are favored to repeat, and the value to play them in the futures market has only lessened in the past weeks.

On the top sports betting apps, the Aces and Liberty have the shortest odds, and a sizeable gap separates them from the rest of the field. However, with eight of 12 teams qualifying for the postseason, there may be better value farther down the betting board.

We review WNBA futures odds and what the updated predictions are signaling. The Indiana Fever, for one, have risen in stock after stringing together some wins.

Odds to Win 2023 WNBA Championship

12 teams compete in the WNBA, with the top-eight overall heading to the playoffs. Teams are seeded in order of best record, with the No. 1 seed facing No. 8, No. 2 facing No. 7, No. 3 vs. No. 6, and No. 4 vs. No. 5.

The first round of the WNBA Playoffs is contested in a best-of-three, with the top seeds hosting the first two at home. The semifinals and finals are contested in a best-of-five series.

Since the change to the current postseason format in 2020, two of the three finals have featured teams in the top four. That means a better regular-season record provides a team with an easier road to the title.

Here are the odds to win the championship from the best sports betting apps, current as of Thursday, June 29.

WNBA Betting Favorites: Aces Continue to Lead

The Las Vegas Aces won their first WNBA championship in 2022, and their hold on the best overall record maintains them as the favorites to win this year’s trophy, too. Playing them now may not yield the best value, as their odds are unlikely to shorten much more ahead of the playoffs.

Las Vegas Aces

Reigning two-time WNBA MVP and Defensive Player of the Year A’ja Wilson was recently named a captain for the 2023 WNBA All-Star Game on July 15. Finals MVP Chelsea Gray and 2022 Most Improved Player Jackie Young will also be heading to the midsummer exhibition and are a key part of the Aces’ shot to repeat.

Under reigning Coach of the Year Becky Hammon, the Aces have won nine of their last 10 games in the month of June. With a run like that, it’s not hard to see why Vegas isn’t offering a higher yield for bettors.

That minus next to their number is likely not going to change, at least not in the near future.

New York Liberty

The New York Liberty sit atop the Eastern Conference standings and are priced between +140 to +180 across major online sportsbooks to win the 2023 WNBA title.

The Liberty are in their second season under head coach Sandy Brondello, who won the title with Phoenix in 2014, and are looking to bounce back after being eliminated in the opening round last season. The team signed former league MVP and two-time Finals MVP Breanna Stewart, who was recently named the other captain in the upcoming All-Star Game.

Former finals winner Courtney Vandersloot and former league MVP Jonquel Jones also feature on this roster.

WNBA Longshots to Consider: Fever Rising

Here’s where the value could lie if you’re not buying the favorites. These teams are right in the sweet spot, priced long enough for a potential nice return on your investment.

Connecticut Sun

The Sun were two wins away from winning it all last year. You wouldn’t guess that, as BetMGM has them priced as the fourth betting choice at +1800 odds.

An offseason coaching change is part of the reason for the lack of respect, as Curt Miller left to join the Los Angeles Sparks (perhaps another team to consider for that reason). Connecticut has turned to Stephanie White in hopes of finally lifting the championship trophy.

Do you like teams with a chip on their shoulder? Look no further than the Sun. The team had zero players named as All-Star starters, an announcement that led to Alyssa Thomas making WNBA history with her fourth career regular-season triple-double.

A torn Achilles has sidelined Brionna Jones, but if the team can manage to make up for her absence, then there’s some value here.

Washington Mystics

The Mystics also had a coaching change following Mike Thibault stepping down from his sideline duties but staying on as GM. Assistant coach Eric Thibault was promoted to the head coaching role and is now responsible for recapturing a championship with members of the 2019 champs like Elena Delle Donne, Tianna Hawkins, Myisha Hines-Allen, Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Natasha Cloud, and Ariel Atkins.

Shakira Austin recently went down to a hip injury, but some sportsbooks have the Mystics as the team with the third-shortest odds. If they get Austin back later in the year, this will certainly increase their chances to make a run.

Indiana Fever

The Fever were bottom three in futures odds, no matter which book you looked at, a few weeks ago. BetMGM and Caesars had them in a three-way tie for longest odds, while DraftKings had them dead last.

Those odds have since changed and the Fever (+8000 at BetRivers) are rising to the middle of the pack. That’s in part because of the play of rookie Aliyah Boston, who will be the sixth rookie to start in the All-Star Game and the first since 2014.

Get on the wagon now because Indiana is on the rise.

Prediction: Aces Look Like a Winner

There’s plenty of season left to play. With over 20 games per team left on the schedule, it’s tough to lay down money on a futures bet for the Aces.

While they have all the makings of a repeat, there’s little value in betting on the Aces now, so the best choice is to find the right spots to play them during the regular season, as you’ll get a quicker return on the team’s victories.

If you like a longer shot like the Sun or Fever, now is the best time to lay a few dollars on the team you think could raise the trophy in a couple of months.

How to Bet on WNBA Championship Odds

Thinking of placing a bet on who will win the WNBA Finals this year? It’s as easy as it sounds.

Odds on teams are based on the roster, recent success, and where they currently rank in the standings. Most important, though, is the betting market’s expectations of a team’s chances to win the title.

Most major online sportsbooks have futures markets for every league, including the WNBA. Each team comes with a price, with the team farthest from competing having the best payout and the favorite to win having the lowest potential return.

For example, if Las Vegas Aces are listed at -115, a $115 bet would result in a $100 profit should they win the championship again this year. In this scenario, it may be better to wait and see if the team slumps at some point in the season and its odds lengthen for a larger potential payout.

The Fever, however, priced at +8000, would earn you $8,000 on a $100 bet.
